UV light for sterilization?

Most vacuum cleaners with no air filter eliminate contaminates and germs with a small, fluorescent, 9 watt UV bulb. i was thinking insetead of boiling everything and stuff if you could just like zap it with this UV light. has anyone heard anything about this or even tried it? and if it does work, 30 years later am i gonna be sitting on the couch and have all my skin fall off from too much radiation or something? thanks alot, i know it'd be alot easier than boiling, so i hope it would work...  :syringe:

The UV light sterilized only the parts which it shines on,the surface, you can never sterilize anything in bulk with it.

Theoretically you might could sterilize agar, liquid culture and glassware, but I can't say it would be especially practical or anything.
