Hi there,
So while tromping through the woods I found these guys, and when I noticed they bruised blue I impulsively snatched them. Now I think they may be Zellers bolete.
Can anyone confirm? Spore print isn't really showing anything yet. Thanks!

Habitat: Mixed forest in soil/mulch around coniferous tree
Gills: Kind of foamy, yellow, bruises blue
Stem: Whitish-yellow, hints of red
Cap: Potato brown, convex
Bruising: Blueish-green
General location: PNW, coastal woods

Some people have been trying to redefine Boletus as just the porcini clade, with the rest of the boletes getting split up into other genera. The problem is that the type species of Tylopilus is T. felleus, and it's not that far away from Boletus edulis - so if we are going to recognize Tylopilus and Boletus, all the other boletes need to be split into many genera.
The alternative would be to move Tylopilus into Boletus.

Yes Boletus zelleri and X. zelleri are the same mushroom, some Germans changed the name. Europeans like to do everything the hard way, that way they feel more accomplished when they get nothing done. I'm still going to call it Boletus. That's what it says in my field guide. Its a bolete.
Thanks for the info Alan.
