Barrel fogger?
    #23770038 - 10/25/16 01:28 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

I'm going to be setting up a fairly large shipping container based fruiting chamber for oyster production.

I was given a used barrel fogger from a MJ grow op (presumably used to fog pesticides, I very thoroughly cleaned it).
I used it to humidify my greenhouse this summer.

Here is the website for the fogger in question:
http://www.fogmaster.com/drum_mounted_6428.htm

My question is, will it work for humidifying my fruiting chamber?
I couldn't find any info on this fogger being used on this forum.
Any reason it wouldn't work?

If you turned the tap off. Nice find, plenty of people use irrigation methods.

Í owned one with a hose for pesticides 25 years ago. Good quality. Basically a cool mist humidifier on steroids. Should work might need a turn table to disperse properly.

Very cool, thanks for the responses.
I'm pretty pumped about this!

Going to hopefully get a 20' x 8' container.
I'm also going to be building a dual hot water pasteurizer/steam sterilizer setup with 2x 55g stainless drums and a boiler.

I will probably eventually buy a flowhood (or build one) too.

Read my comments here, if you get the idea you can make an isolator.
In essence a SAB with flow ability. Burst or regulated flow.

Can even make a portable one with a wooden frame.
With cleanable tub, or isolation chamber.

I was thinking of something like that. Like a hood with a lexan enclosure attached to it.

How do you plan to insulate the container? Or is it a reefer container?

I was just going to grow during times of the year when temps are favorable.
Pop an AC unit somewhere pumping cold air into the chamber if needed during the summer.
Maybe even put the entire thing under a shade cloth so the sun isn't pounding on it.

Bad idea?

I haven't bought the container yet anyway so my options are still open.

I have some foamboard insulation as well, but it's in pretty bad shape.
I could buy some more if insulation is critical.

Source a refrigerated trailer with a broken or missing refrigeration unit. They are slightly more expensive than a container but the insulation will let you grow year round and slow down temp swings. Also save you a killing on any climate control energy.

If you havent already seen look up a block grant article titled "cost effective specialty mushroom cultivation" If you cant find it PM me and i can email you it. Its about growing in a reefer trailer.

I actually saw one of those damn things at an auction here only a week ago. Went for like 1.8K, super cheap.
I think it even still had the fridge unit in it.

I managed to find the article, going to read through it now!
Thank you for your help

Yeah without a doubt find a reefer they come in lots of sizes. Where I worked they had one for outdoor storage it had slatted aluminum floor. Fiberglass/ plastic walls perfect for mushrooms.

Hey Gr0wer, I looked around for that article and couldn't find it.  Would you mind linking it here?  Sounds like an interesting article.

not sure on your fogger but we use a insulated shipping container to grow oysters. it works great we started out at 50 lbs a week and now were moving closer to 100. we go all summer and all winter as well. interested to see how you put it all together.

Found a cheap 12x8x8 reefer truck. You guys think that's big enough to get started?
Comes with shelving, working refrigerator unit, the truck itself runs, etc.

i dunno why you'd want a whole refrigerated truck to grow in.  Standard trailers are 8x8x53ft and go for anywhere from $500-10k used depending on condition and location.  standard 8x8x40ft insulated shipping containers are $5k depending on how close to a port you are.  If you were just going to build a 12x8x8 building, you could do it for $2-3k in materials.

The truck is only 3k, figured I could use it for delivery as well as growing.
Cooling being built in already for summer is nice too.
I've been looking but I haven't been able to find insulated shipping containers or trailers anywhere nearby unless I'm willing to pay upwards of 6k.

Fairly easy to make my money back on this truck too, if I decide to sell it in the future.

you high man?  You think you can drive around with your grow room in the back of a truck and not have shit flying everywhere ?

3k is a really good deal though for a reefer truck.

No problem, self harvesting. When you stop just pick them off the floor.
