Moderate pecs are relatively standard for martial artists, you have to do a lot of cardio and endurance training, throw a lot of punches etc., that's going to limit your overall bulk

Guys I've known or met in the military training for combat readiness rarely have large pecs, a few long-term vets come to mind, people without weaknesses

Moonshoe has an ideal physique to my eyes, worrying at that stage would be body dysmorphia

Martial artists have little interest in size or appearance, it's all about functionally and survival. I don't even know of many who even bench, it's always geared towards explosiveness, etc.

Thanks brother

I do have body dysmorphia and often feel I look skinny even though everyone says I am jacked.  Likewise often don't like my face in photos when others think they look good. But I don't let it bother me I just focus on training.

Yeah currently I do 3 hours of Martial arts training a day, hitting the bag, footwork, takedown drills etc , no weights at all currently . I do yoga as well to prevent injuries .

Definitely plan to incorporate weights again soon.

If you watch UFC you learn that too much muscle is a disadvantage because it requires more oxygen and that makes you gas out sooner.

We do more push-ups, chin ups etc.

But I will definitely incorporate weights because the mma gym I joined also has a weight room :lifter:

I will vouch for this, recently started doing pushups on top of my normal push routine, chest is getting smaller and more compact.

It all depends on build too. Moonshoes height comes into play. If hes 6 foot 1' at that build, he is far from a "small guy" And actually at an ideal fighting size if thats the case, if not able to add a tiny bit extra.

Huge difference between hypertrophy training and STRENGTH TRAINING. Strength training MR P. Hypertrophy is so you can flex in the mirror like a little girl and try and look pretty, strength is what you do so you only need to throw one punch.

Moonshoe do you do powercleans at all?

My muscles produce orgasms in attractive females. I am also very good at beating up people but I do not like beating people up. I am too good at it. I am black belt in all chinese forms of punching guys.

So You'd put up higher numbers and have better endurance? BRB will go peep the gym thread to see if you've posted numbers

Because at 6'3" that's far from a bad frame.

No problem, my current goal is to be lb for lb as strong as possible, from 235 with a 4 pack now at 225-220 starting to lean out more at 6'1". My goal is to hit my PR of 2 45's strapped to my waist for dips and a 45 strapped to my waist for chin ups. Want to get to the 70lb for kettle bell swings too but still stuck at the 60 range

Right on man good job!

I am 6"3 and only 180. I struggle enormously to gain weight because I just don't have an appetite to match how much I exercise.

Trying to increase calories, protein and fats as much as possible.

The most I ever weighed was 190 and I have never been able to get back there.

180 seems to be my natural fighting weight.

This is kind of what I'm figuring out too. I want to reach my best weight, like the one my body functions best at agility and power wise which I'm going to assume is between 205-215. Will never get the 8pack but I can live with it. I use to be the same way when I was younger, 18 i had to force pizza and tons of other high calorie foods down my throat, now at 25 i can't eat burgers every day. Which i reaaaalllly want to try a ketogenic diet. was reading a book about blood types and if my assumption about mine is right based of my mother, my body needs high protein and fat content. Yay rotisserie chicken and avocado lol

I'm fucking fat right now, Masked called it when I was putting on a bunch of weight, a lot of it was muscle but there's a good 15'lbs of fat I need to burn (at 20% body fat, never had this much fat in my life)

Fucking disgusting, got to turn that around

Me too.

I quit smoking for real for real about 2 - 2.5 months ago and I've gained about 15 pounds since. I originally thought people gained weight after quitting because they replaced smoking with eating. Turns out your metabolism slows down (or goes back to a natural state), the major cause of weight gain.

I smoked about 10 years - since I was 16, and I smoked constantly throughout the day. I used a vape the last two years, but I used it in between cigarettes for the most part.

Anyway, despite running 6 days out of the week, I've still been putting on pounds. I started going to the gym in the evening to do an hour on the eliptical machine a couple days ago though. I use the eliptical because if I ran anymore than I do I'd risk injury and need something no impact.

Honestly, it's about time for me to get into weightlifting, otherwise I don't think I'll be able to reverse it. I never lift weights. Ever.

I don't think long distance running is good for weight loss, after about 40min your body starts producing a lot more cortisol. Overall I think shorter HIIT runs are better for either weight loss or building muscle

Right now I'm just focused on building a foundation in calisthenics, not going to add weights until I've peaked out what I can do without weights. Still in hypertrophy range for chin-ups, can only pop out maybe 6 sets of 12 between 2 sessions on a really good day. Definitely still in hypertrophy range with pull-ups, haven't done more than 24 between sets of chin-ups. Range of motion is too narrow, reps are too fast, got a lot of work to do before adding weight. Legs and core are good though.

Everyone's goals are different, I'm also one of those people who prefer not to use weights in general, would rather throw 50'lbs on my back and do a solid set of pull-ups if anything.

Welcome into crossing into your 30's. If it wasn't for the fact I'm 20x wiser now than I was at my physical peak, I don't think I could see any point in this life whatsoever.

Getting older sucks (physically).
