helps prevents side pinning and its what you use to lift the sub out to harvest the fruits...

I never did liner until the last tub because I always thought it was a pain.

1- All side pinning was gone as the substrate sucked in the liner. All harvesting was easier and strictly on the top of the sub.

2- cleanup up was so much quicker. I lifted up the liner and broke it in another garbage bag. Perfect. No residue in the tub itself.

I would say it only helps with cleanup.
You don't need a liner to not get side pins. You just need to do everything else right

BTW
If I use aluminium containers as trays I also use a liner.
Mycelium will 'eat' aluminium if you don't use a liner.

i dont see how someone could get side pins if the sub is even...

the only time i get side pins is after a flush or 2 when the sub shrinks down and has about 2" of space between it and the walls. the microclimate created by the liner/walls and the the surface of the sub kinda acts like the wax paper casing method.

i get tons of side pins after it shrinks, but they usually find their way out, ive never had one on a first flush (where would they come from?)

i use liners in my monotubs and dont in my otto buckets (which is kinda like a mini mono)

It would seem the point of the liner is to prevent those side pins you see forming on your later flushes.

Usually a second flush then toss. Stumps don't cause a problem that's what turns into new pins

Prevents side pins my ass!! JK

:whathesaid:
clean up is a breeze. The sub comes out in one solid piece and if it does break on you, most of the sub will still be clung to the liner.

Very useful for contaminated tubs, With the sub still in the tub, you can slide a trash bag starting at one end and drag the sub into the bag without moving it much, not having to worry about anything on the bottom being left behind.

That's a nice flush, is that from an isolate?

It's not like the liner is a lot of extra work. I don't see why not to use one.

If you use an unmodified tub you can fill it up with water and float the substrate up to harvest

That seems like a fairly messy and complicated operation compared to just pulling the substrate out using the liner to keep it all togetherish.
