Will ANY PP5 plastic container "work"?
    #23768618 - 10/24/16 11:22 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

So I find myself with everything I need to "expand" except for more jars. I have some containers around the house that say pp5 for the plastic type on them. Will any plastic container with these markings survive the PC and be safe to use? Sorry I searched forums and could only find "brand name" containers in use.

PP means polypropylene. 5 is the recycling code. Other plastics have different numbers like polystyrene is PS and it's number is 6

Polypropylene will not melt in a pressure cooker at 15psi

Other plastics will.

The melting point of plastic is one thing. But any temperature above what they call the glass transition point means the plastic will warp. Polypropylene has a glass transition temperature and a melting point above 121C or 250F.

I think the only polypropylene and some specific polycarbonate can survive pressure cooker or autoclave
