ID request - UK nubcake forager
    #23767113 - 10/24/16 03:01 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Hello guys. I've been hunting around where I live, after being told that mushrooms might be growing here.

I've got three different looking batches, and as I'm brand new at this, I don't really want to go in blind.

1st

Found growing from a rotted log, UK midlands.
Whitish/grey gills
White to brown stem
Not too sure what the scent is, but...smells old? musty? idk

Again, from a rotted log in the woods. Very small in size, most 3 inches and very dried out.
White / pinky lavender gills.
Brown / grey stem.
same musty scent.

At the base of a living tree. Found in a big bunch of them, maybe 50 or so tightly packed.
white gills
white stem
same scent.

I'm not sure about image 3, I only harvested them because I had the word "nipple on top" in my head.

I haven't had time to make a spore print yet either x(
Sorry if I missed anything out!

I see Mycena, Mycena and Mycena, though the gill colour of the second lot may indicate Pluteus instead.

I think they are all Mycena.  The second one had me looking at Pluteus, Nolanea, and Leptonia but I think it is just pink staining with the age of the gills.

Awesome.

I still have a pretty big cow field and park to explore so I still have hope!

I can see now that my ones were missing the dark gills, and that libs have a lighter, fleshy coloured nipple rather than dark like I thought. Right?

Indeed.  Your Mycena are missing another typical feature of Psilocybe, which is the gelatinous pellicle, a sometimes removable gelatin like layer on the cap of the mushroom.  In dryer conditions, it can still be observed by the tacky, sticky feeling when the cap is touched. Mycena do not have it, that I know of.

That explains why all the liberty caps here look sticky and wet. ty
