To add to Growers great tip here, just to say that these units are available on ebay for not much money search "digital water meter". Alternatively you can buy the hall sensor flow meters, a solenoid and an arduinio and DIY it - which is good if you want to a number of things in sequence.

Yea the unit was cheap off ebay, only $35. I watched a few videos on it before purchacing and it seems like a fairly reliable unit.

I just used the gizmo for the first time today, worked like a charm! I also think ill use this for filling my grain soak bin, just have the shower head spray into the bin then open a drain that goes into the grain soak bin which is below and next to the IBC tote.

I'm not sure about your one grower but those cheap hall sensors aren't meant to be very accurate.
=/- 5% accuracy would add up when measuring large amounts of water.
I guess it doesn't matter too much because we weigh dry substrate to work out biological efficiency.

This isn't rocket science. It gets it close enough and saves me time and backache. If i really wanted to i could have it measure into a vessel then just verify and trim the quantity but i honestly don't think it will make a huge difference. I bet for winter and summer i might need to adjust the volume since my water goes from 80F to 50-60F but other than that i bet im good. The first batch i made was like perfect with moisture, squeezed the shit out of it and got like 3 drops of water.
