I plan to get a TB hardrive soon hopefully.

I have lost a lot of music over the years and had to restart my collection a few times or I would be at least at 500gb I bet.

I don't really bother hoarding data any more. At one point I had 7 TB of hard drives full of movies and tv, but 2 of the 3 drives eventually crapped out. Not much point in e.g. having good quality rips of every Star Trek series when it's all on Netflix now anyway.

I don't listen to any pre 2016, unless I'm nostalgic. Too much to discover. I'm on a future-bass kick, but don't tell my friends.

I'm always torn on the FLAC issue.

I hate to "lose" the quality, but to be honest, I can't tell the difference between FLAC and a high quality mp3 rip.

I am the opposite, most of my music is from the 70's. There is too much amazing old stuff to discover to just overlook it all.

I bet I could name like 10-100 albums from 30-40 years ago you have not heard that might blow your mind

There is still good stuff coming out but so many of the best gems are hidden away from the 70's :crazy2:

How do you listen to your audio? Honestly the audible difference between a FLAC and a freshly converted MP3 from a quality source isn't a ton.

But there is definitely a difference and with some stuff it can be like night vs day. If your just using cheap headphones it won't be as apparent though.

MP3's sound louder and harsher too me where as FLAC's are more smooth and "full" and sound much much better at loud volumes then MP3's IMO.

I collect FLACs more for the longterm benefits. If all I had was MP3's in a few decades they may sound like shit but lossless audio will hold up fine.

And I can always convert a flac to an MP3 if I need to, but you can't turn lossy audio back into lossless and regain the lost data.

You audiophiles have got to try a pair of Shure SE535s. I hear all kinds of detail I've never heard before. Huge difference between mp3 and m4a.

I have a pair of Xone XD‑53 "PRO dj headphones" which are not as comfy as Shure's and other brands but they are considerably louder and have an equally good frequency range.

I kind of wish I had opted for a quieter and cozy pair but I listen to a ton of live music so its nice having the extra headroom :awesomenod:

While its relative, I think I have a high quality system.  Probably about 5k new.

With headphones I have the audio technica ATH M-50 and Sennheiser momentum 2.0.

I notice bigger differences when swapping in and out components and headphones versus file formats.

Another thing to consider is the source, for example FLAC's ripped from vinyl have a really amazing warm analog sound that is pretty much as good as digital can get IMO. But a flac ripped from CD might not sound as authentic or have as noticeable a difference. I always opt for vinyl when possible don't have a nice turn table to FLAC's are super convenient.

I use playstation and xbox emulators and download a shit-ton of games.  I do music, movies and tv shows too.  And of course pics from my photo hobby.  That shit adds up quick.  Just filled up a 2Tb hard drive recently

I wouldn't mind finding some good quality mp3's though

Yeah, there's a chrome extension that adds a DL button to most SC tracks. I use http://listentoyoutube.com to DL mixes and lectures. Better quality than offliberty.
