Maybe i have more open standards, but i think the art direction of this last episode was exceptional and reminded me of indie films ive seen.
I thought it was really well done

TWD is good enough to watch, I have to skip through parts sometimes when all the syrupy melodrama comes up
That last episode was a mock snuff film

You're confusing my talking about saying something of depth with having a 'message' of some sort. Saying it like that obviously brings to mind sloganeering and bumper sticker art. Having something of depth to say could be having well limned characters that can highlight some aspect of the human experience so that it can be better understood. It can be exploring a theme in a novel way. I'm not talking about bullshit political art or anything like that. When an art work says something deep, the emotions will be affected as well. Cheaply appealing to emotions as in a Spielberg movie just won't compare.

The best art direction in the world can't make ridiculous situations into great art.

I'm pretty sure I understand what you're saying
Cheap melodrama) Independence day, the movie
Purely emotional experience) Mozart's 20th Piano Concerto
Art with a message) Apocalypse Now / Beethoven's 9th Symphony
Poor attempt at inserting a message) The Walking Dead
Pretentious shite) Anything by John Cage

Is there explicit insight into the Abraham Isaac situation, though? Was Issac willing or struggling again harm? I believe Coral whispering 'just do it' influenced the psychopathic Negan to lowering Rick's hatchet.
In the same sense that Negan threw Corals hat to 'strip him of dignity' (there's a new sheriff in town and it ain't yo daddy), I would think him being brave through willingness to sacrifice his arm 'removed the fun' from the situation for Negan.
@shroomslip XD too soon, Glenn was my fav

I think it was just to show Rick how much control he has over them, I don't think he really wanted to chop Carl's arm off.

Not just him playing the father, Maggie is the mother. Although she kinda don't look like herself there.

I think he was going to. Even Carl was egging him on to do it.
