Gymnophilus? ID request
    #23764415 - 10/23/16 02:31 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Habitat:
Found in clusters growing on a well rotted fallen tree. The tree trunk lies on boggy ground beside a pond in the middle of a small wood. The wood is in England at sea level and is populated with a mixture of deciduous trees (oak, birch, laurel) and conifers.

Gills:
Orange/Rusty, Adnate, with some frayed edges.

Stem:

Thick(1-1.5cm) orange, scaly and darker at the base, which is slightly bulbous. Solid and when cut the flesh is yellow throughout.

Cap:
2cm to 8cm, averaging 4-5cm. Orange, slightly small scales on a few examples.Broadly convex.

Spore print color:
Orange/Rusty.

Bruising:
Not really, just darkens on stem and cap.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, just a bit mushroomy. Taste (a little nibble and spit) was very bitter, and not a little like pickled ass.

It looks soaked or in an odd way, but I think Pholiota is likely.
