Post secondary education...

Let's face the truth here. Unless you're going into a field like science or medicine, it's pretty much useless right? Then again employers ask for degrees for job that don't require a degree. So we've got millions of students enrolling themselves into useless bachelor degrees. What's even worse, is even if you have a uselful degree, their are no jobs anymore...
At this point we are lending money we don't have to kids who can't pay it back to train them for jobs that no longer exists...
A big WTF in my book.
What's the solution to this shit? Convince employers to lower their standards? Not get post secondary education in the first and be shunned? Lower tuition and pass the bill on to taxpayers?
Nothing seems to make sense anymore....

My degrees in Industrial Engineering are basically the most useful things I have (workwise that is)
Even my philosophy degree helped me get my current job
I worked whilst studing so no debt here

I don't use my degree now but a Bachelors is required for a lot of corporate jobs. If you're trying to go that route a bachelors is basically a must have.

I'm in a STEM based job so i'm a bit biased but my colleague who is our office manager studied in modern languages, feminism and litterature or some shit like that.
At first i was really skeptic about the use of her degree but due to her studies and dedication she speaks 5 languages (English, French, Spanish, German and Italian) perfectly so she is the perfect fit for an international company like ours.
So the degree itself didn't really help her but it gave the ground for her to find a passion and teach herself what she wanted.

Are you just now realizing the insanity and impending economic doom of the student loan crisis? When that bubble finally bursts, the USA will be in serious trouble because we'll have this huge debt over our heads during a ginormous economic downturn.

No. That's the thing. Everybody knows about it and yet there's always more students attending unviersity every year (at in Canada). They know it too and yet... It's complete madness. it's like a cycle of never ending stupid. Ottawa University has been expanding every few years because of the larger quantity of students every year.
A bunch of solutions are being thrown out there and nothing seem to ever be implemented. Everybody knows, everybody wants to change it. Nobody actually does anything...

Same type of insanity happened in Nazi Germany with killing jews and dissidents. People just caught up in cycles of shit, despite knowing better. Here's the thing, if you give people a structured, goal-oriented activity then a good chunk of people will gladly follow along to achieve the end goal. If it's competitive, people get even more involved. From video games to religion to government, it's all the same basic underpinnings of giving people a channel to achieve something of perceived value at the end. So yeah, people grow up in school with the next grade being the goal and that mindset continues into post-grad education. It's not insanity; it's human nature.

Paying student loans back isn't that big of a deal. They have a payment plan that takes like 10% of your paycheck. Then if you don't pay it off in 25 years they forgive the rest of it. I paid my loans off in a couple years and make more money with my degree even though I don't really use it. I did pick a science degree though.
There are plenty of jobs out there.
A lot of colleges have mandatory bullshit classes that have nothing to do with your degree and they get new books every year and barley even use them. They could easily stream line the experience and make it cheaper, but then there would be less profit.

I like the argument about structure. People do seek structure... Anything to force them into a routine that will give them the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment
Also, the bullshit courses are just a money grab

If that argument interests you, check out this book. It's fascinating. The argument I made is an extremely abbreviated version of that book's subject.

a bachelors is pretty much required to do anything that isn't physical labor. Mostly I just see a degree as a necessity not for earning money but for being an informed person. Imo that matters more, I mean if all you are is a cog in a machine I'd say call it quits now please. Especially since many jobs will easily be replaced by automation, which would of course bring the whole capitalist model into question if it were ever allowed to happen to the logical extreme

My advice would be don't get a degree by going into debt.
If you can't afford it or get a scholarship don't do it.
Unless you are certain it will lead to a lucrative job you will love and there is no other way and you are passionate about it.
Otherwise I would much rather get a basic job and save rather than going into debt and ending up with the same basic job .

Some Bachelor degrees are worth it, as Patlal mentioned, science engineering medicine and business degrees are best.
But some places take any Bachelor degrees, but a Bachelor of Science in any field is pretty desirable.
Having a degree basically tells employers "Im educated and I am smarter than your average employee."
