Did you fold the foil in half before molding to the lid like I showed in my tek?
I added that step to add strength to the foil to hopefully avoid holes. But if your foil is very thin you may have to fold twice.. I'll add that when I update next if that's the case

My cakes are drinking up the water every 12 hours roughly

Also.. how high were you when this happened?

Not, not high!

Lol not not high again, both my legs went dead for an extremely scary amount of time due to sitting on them for so long. I must have poured a good amount in. The give away was when it started running out the sgfc :bigblunt: whoops.

I feel like these jars are growing a bit too slowly...
10 days growth, two different varieties of cubes and two jars of wild Pan cyan:

A2Gd each jar with a small wedge.

The temps in this room have been all over the place, maybe that's why?
Thoughts?

I figured I'd let them colonize a bit further first.

If you think I should shake 'em now I sure will.

I'd leave 'em be. Some cultures aren't as quick.
Also, with A2G, it's best to use a wedge of nutritious agar. I know we reduce nutes sometimes to get quick and rhizomorphic growth, but you should x-fer back to reg. nute agar before A2G for stronger jump off growth.

I've started playing with thin plates of nutritious agar (so it doesn't take quite as long to grow out), and though finicky to pick up with the blade, it seems to help a bit.

I have put socks on my latest jars to help contain the heat and to buffer against any temp fluctuations. This is common enough for people brewing beer. You insulate the 30L fermenter with some blankets or old sweaters. Fermenting beer will generate its own heat just like colonising jars, though I think the heat generated by colonising jars is hugely overestimated by people, especially if colonising at 70F in the first place where growth is slow enough. I did not keep a control jar, it would be interesting to see any difference.

They are popcorn jars which are very easy to shake and break up agar well. I used smaller wedges than you appeared to and shook the fuck out of the jars at the start, the popcorn really breaks it up. I was surprised to find I had growth all over the jars, not a single spot with none, so they required no shaking at all other than the first, I did shake anyway to test if they recover well as it seemed a bit too good. I have added popcorn to jars of brown rice and it acts like little ball bearings mixing it up, when brown rice is usually very hard to shake. I think it might be a good option for G2G due to this, though there are several reasons people do not like it, so might not suit some.

I would not shake them now. Wait until 30%.
Shaking now won't do much.

That's what I also do after using agar for inoculation. It helps a lot.

Good to know about the agar nutrients thing.
I generally pour really thin as is just so I don't have to go buy more agar powder any time soon lol.

Would the socks or cloth or whatever block out too much light, or does it not really matter?
Otherwise, good idea.

Yeah I think I'm going to wait.
I did notice some other jars I started at the same time that I accidentally rolled the agar wedge around in have started several growth points instead of one.

I leave it a few days and then shake usually.  Personally I would.

However you do have to question the slow growth and what that could mean.  Have the temps been lower than 65 much?

Yeah, sometimes down to 50F.
Usually 60-70 though.

This house has paper thin shitty insulation and walls.

Not optimum.  You could be waiting a while.  Theres no harm in shaking once u have myc on grains.

I was running a space heater for a while just to keep the temps more consistent, should I try that again?

Well I mean, to keep the room at 60F I'm going to have to run a heater.
Otherwise it's going to dip down in the 50s every other night like I said.

I don't mind waiting a bit longer because of the temps either, but if it's going to negatively affect my grows

you need to run some sort of heater. preferably radiant rather than fan forced
