I need to get some more Harddrive space for my desktop computer.

I'm surprised how long 1TB  has lasted. I manly just use my computer for playing games, I stream a little too on twitch but haven't in some time.

I was wondering how much space you guys recommend, I'm thinking of getting 3TB this time.

Iv got windows 7 on my SSD, its got 74 GB free space. Do you guys think I'll be needed to upgrade that as well-anytime soon? I'm thinking no. My startup time is pretty fast still and I've got all of my Steam games being saved on my other Harddrive.

Mainly I made this thread to double check the kind of Harddrive Im getting is compatible with my rig, I'm not entirly sure obviously LOL. I was looking on newegg and seen something like 3TB NAS hard drive, and another that was 3TB PC Hard Drive. Naturally I think the second is the correct one but I don't know the difference of NAS versus PC HardDrive.

Here's what I got last time http://www.outletpc.com/co2169.html

Here's what I want to purchase

Specs if you need it

Mobo- Asus Z97-pro
CPU- i-7 4790k @4.00GHz
16GB ram
GPU- Geforce GTX770

the ED 3TB should work. It is not as fast  as a WD Black (5400 vs 7200 rpm spindle speed). The Black is a better drive, with a longer factory warranty, too. Not sure if the Black is available in 3TB. I would go with  2tb Black over a 3TB blue.

Right so 7200 rpm is obviously faster, and 2 TB is still a lot of space.

I found a WD 3TB http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA9763C89072

It's a little more expensive and 3TB might be overkill.

I think I'm gonna go with 2TB http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA9MH3GB5461

There's a sale going on and there's a 2TB SShd on sale for cheap, better deal then the 2TB HD I was gonna get. I was wondering if it would be better to get the SSHD, I'm just surprised because its like 40$ cheaper then the 2TB HD.

The SShd is seagate http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178380&ignorebbr=1&_ga=1.164911103.131428430.1468618710

The 2TB HD is western digital http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236624&ignorebbr=1&_ga=1.159390461.131428430.1468618710 ;

What do u guys think, is seagate not as good as WD, is that why its on sale? According to the specs I would assume the SSHD is a steal.

After reading the reviews for both HD's, it seems like both mechanical and solid states have a high failure rate. I've put together my first PC about 2 years ago, and I've never had any problems with my SSD or my Mech HD.

Is there anyone who can confirm that HD's die fairly often, or is it that people are just unlucky I guess?

In the six years I worked in a computer repair shop I saw just two WD Black that failed. saw many Seagates' that had to be warrantied, and a number of WD Blue drives. There weren't many SSD's around at that time, so I can't comment on them.
