Question about lighting
    #23760424 - 10/22/16 10:01 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Is it absolutely necessary to have a 6500k bulb for a shotgun fruiting chamber? I know it's preferred but will my cakes still be alright without it? They would have ambient lighting from regular room lighting. Any advice would be appreciated thank you.

6500k is ideal, you can get a bulb from anywhere cheap. You can fruit with whatever tho.

Fresh Air Exchange is the most important fruiting condition.

After that, humidity at the substrate level - and then light.

Mushrooms can actually grow with 0 light, albeit - a bit strange and undesirable.

You might as well go grab a cheap light to use... that way when your grow fucks up you won't be able to blame it on the lighting... Just kidding!

It is one less thing you can strike off the board though and not worry about.

I know it ain't groundbreaking technology or anything but I used a $4 cheap desk lamp from walmart and made a hole in the top big enough for the lamp socket to fit through then screwed in the light from the underside of the lid.. Seems to work fine and will only set you back about 8 bucks..

most fluorescent light bulbs are 6500k.  i bought a light bulb splitter thing on amazon and turned one socket into three and i put three 6500k spiral bulbs in it. its on a stand in the middle of my room on a timer. its been nothing but perfect/
