Hi Guys,
I am currently new to the mushroom scene, and I would really appreciate some help with identifying/hunting tips.
I have been reading this guide to help me find the correct conditions, and I believe I have everything I should need to find them: http://www.lycaeum.org/w/images/5/58/Magic_Nordic_Liberty_Cap_Photographer's_field_guide
I live next to the country side in Milton Keynes, there are fields upon fields of cows, sheep and horses, all full of manure. I have gone for my first hunt today -a 4 hour expedition in which I found several types of shroom
I'll post pictures below of the terrain & mushrooms, and I'll do some spore prints tonight. I'm a little puzzled as I didn't find as many as I thought I would, but I'll keep optimistically searching. Anyone got any ideas of why I didn't find many? The conditions ticked every box from my PDF identification.
-It was 12 Degrees today -It's been raining the past few days, not today though. -The grass and soil where I was looking was wet/damp - some droplets showing on the grass -The conditions were wet grass, mostly medium length with some smaller patches. All of the fields I looked in were FULL of cow manure & sheep crap.
-The landis soil map states the two types of soils in the area I was looking are: Slowly permeable seasonally wet slightly acid but base-rich loamy and clayey soils & Lime-rich loamy and clayey soils with impeded drainage Soil Map link: http://www.landis.org.uk/soilscapes/
Below are the pictures of my find, I will add spore prints once they're done. I did some spore prints yesterday and got black circles, but they were crappy prints so I'm not going to post those.
I found several shrooms, I only picked the ones I believed may be liberties, or other psychedelic relatives,
So here's what I got,
Terrain Pics:

Shroom pics: Here's everything I got (alot of them got destroyed in my container, I'll use a smaller one next time and line it with something like tinfoil perhaps.

Here's the ones I think may be libs or something similar:

Chunky lib looking one:

Little brown libs?

These ones were growing in the same area, look a little spooky but I picked them for ID:

Let me know if I missed any details that would help you guys identify/ point me in the right direction
I'll keep posting my progress - Is it a late shroom season as all the ones I thought may be libs were rather small, so I thought maybe they've just started growing hense why I couldn't see/find many. I saw some TINY ones less than 3mm starting to grow in patches.

To be honest I was a little unsure myself too, any idea's why I couldn't find any at all? Am I right in thinking the conditions and temperature were perfect? Is it perhaps too early here?
I've ordered a grow kit, but finding them naturally would be that little bit more awesome,

I believe that the "acid, but base-rich" soils don't tend to harbour liberty caps - I've been doing a bit of an exercise in this and not found any reported finds in those areas.

With each containing one of the following: Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk? Didn't think so. This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.

Okay cheers - I've had a look online, there's little or no psychoactive properties in those species you mentioned, is that correct?
Do you think based on my area/soil/terrain there'd be any mushrooms that are psychoactive but not liberty caps?

In such a habitat it's also possible you could find one or other species of psychoactive panaeolus, such as Pan. cinctulus.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Fields with sheep, horses and cows, at this time of year, in Milton Keynes, or anywhere else in the UK, may definitely be harbouring liberty caps. Keep hunting!

Okay that's refreshing to know It's just disheartening that I didn't even find one, but the walking through the fields and stroking the cows and seeing my dog running around smiling made it worth it,
It's 12 degrees today, the suns out a little, I'll go and have another look in an hour or so. Do the cows need to be actively grasing, or does it just need to be a field that was previously inhabited by cows? There are fields full of their crap with no cows, and besides these fields are sheep, cow & horse fields too. I was a little scared the cows were going to crush me haha, they loved my black and white dog and followed us wherever we went around the perimeter of the fence.

Yeah keep looking. It's going to be a late season this year for liberty caps where I am (greater london), and a short one unless the ground frosts come late (ground frosts seem to end the liberty caps season). Maybe they'll be out after the next good soaking of rain, but then again the fallen leaves on fields might just provide enough humidity for them to pop up. Good luck with your hunting.
