Presto 23 on 7 inch burner.
    #23760293 - 10/22/16 08:54 AM (7 years, 4 months ago)

I currently have a small presto PC which can only fit two quart jars.

I figured I'd step up to the Presto 23 as it's said it can hold 7-10 quart jars.

The problem is the dimensions listed are from 14-15 inches.

Will this work on a burner that's only 7 inches?

Sure it'll take a bit to heat up but even my small one does.

I'm curious because I already placed the order on Amazon but then I started thinking about the size and I'm wondering if maybe I should go with a smaller one instead ...

I run this PC on a 7" burner without issue
I think I even ran it on one of the smaller burners once.

Sometimes I am heating an AA 930 on my magnetic stirrer / heater (about 7").
No problems. Takes a little longer than my bigger heating plate but it works.

The stove is just an old electric stove with the coil type burners.

I suppose really what I'm most worried about is the weight.

Then again if I think of some of the heavy pots of sauce and stuff I've cooked on it. I'm probably worrying too much.

The 23 qt PC is about 2x as big.

I'm thinking maybe rolling up some aluminum and using it as support under the outside edges might alleviate some of my paranoia.

I've just never used such a big pot on a relatively small burner.

Same with my stove.

I can't seem to find a source right now but I remember reading that over time the stovetop will warp from the heat and weight of larger PCs.
My stove is actually slightly warped from running this PC and some other large pots very often.

The only stoves you aren't supposed to use a PC on are ceramic or glass top ones because they can crack.

Well... I had canceled the order but you made me change my mind so I reordered it.

It will be nice to not have to spend all day swapping out two jars at a time .

Basically this has a round 8 inch part on the bottom that's 1/4 inch lower than the rest of the bottom so that'll be sitting on my 7 inch burner.

For the overhang I'll likely fill the PC up with water halfway to see how it sits and form a circular piece of foil to use as a support to distribute the weight better. My burner is already a little tweaked so while the extra support might seem overkill it'll make me feel better.

Thanks for your input.

It will run no problem on your standard stove element. If you want to be cool guy you can order a canning element from amazon etc that you pop off your stove element and slap in. It has more robust support, and also lifts the cooker up so the stove surface doesn't get so hot.
