need advice

I bought a grow kit (I know..) and I got my first flush, but it was weak and I only got about 8 mushrooms. ITs a bulk grow on straw.
I added the casing they included, and after reading these forums I feel that it was too thick, and the mushrooms are having a hard time to get through it. The only mushrooms I got were side pins. Since my first flush is done, I was thinking of removing the casing and dunking the cake, and perhaps ad a thin layer of the casing.
I feel the mycelium should have a lot left in it since I didnt get as much as expected. Im unsure of the strain.
Side not- I ordered spores so will do it the right way next time.
Advice is needed, thanks

You shouldn't have cased after your 1st flush. Enjoy the side pins and when you do it right the next time by reading your ass off here, you should do much better

It was cased before the first flush, not after

Your wording made it seem otherwise, not an issue then. How thick are we talking about?

Wow.....waaaaay too much. 1/4-1/2" max. No wonder your mycelium diverted energy to side pin. I would try to gently pick up the tray and dump it off. If you're worried of dropping or the substrate breaking apart you can turn it on its side and let it fall off. Just be careful because your myc has most likely grown into the casing a bit.

Your casing was way too thick, sounds like.

Also
I would attempt to get rid of some of that casing layer. Way too much!

fyi - I got rid of 80% of the casing, gave the sub some water and added a thin layer of casing back on. Some mycelium had gown through the casing but not as much as expected.
I let it sit in the dark for the weekend to recover now back into fruiting conditions. We will see.
I figure this was my issue.

I wouldn't have added more, but let's give it some time. This casing was pasteurized right? That shit doesnt stay pasteurized forever so if it was or came Pasteurized and you added the same stuff 2 weeks later....it wasn't.

I basically thinned out the casing and spread out what was already there. It was pasturized the first time when I originally added it, but not after spreading it out.
also, I just noticed the mycelium is starting to get 'fuzzy' where exposed a little. not sure if they are knots or not, but its doing something.
as it stands, Im not a huge fan of casing.

How moist does it look. A light spritz may help it pin some. Don't do this often

Its still fairly moist, not going to spray for a few days. Also keep fanning. The casing was pretty wet once I removed some, since there was so much of it.

It's a kits version of a monotub. I found a cluster of 4 pins so removing some of the casing seemed to help. I also noticed the sub dips down sort of like a valley which also added to a thick Casing in the center

Ok, if it's pinning, it's working. Don't expect stellar fruits in canopies be happy you got something from a sketchy kit lol Keep the thread updated
