Starting from scratch, syringe with rye and ordering compost

Hey folks, so after two crash and burns on grow bags/kits this year here in Japan I am getting wiser and "cheaper" route and planned to just order a set of spore syringes and a big bag of rye berries and the "ez grow" compost/manure mixture. Do I need to pasturize the rye berries or the compost? since they are shipped people tell me it can get contams and im trying to play it safe so I can really do a successful bulk load.
Thanks!

Is this a bag of just dry rye berries or did you buy a prepared spawn bag of rye?
Yes, you need to pasteurize your compost.

I planned on just buying a cheap bi bag of dry rye berries, pasturizing would mean taking the compost/horse mixture and putting it into super hot boiling water then...draining? (sorry im a noob when it comes to past.)

Just go to a feed store and get a 50lb bag of oats or rye. Get a pressure cooker, soak and sterilize them. Then buy a good amount of coir (bagged or block), a bag of horticultural vermiculite, and some form of gypsum. Choose a mix ratio (usually 70/30 with a handful of gypsum, pastuerize in a bucket or the oven, voila. You instantly have an almost endless supply of substrate for dozens of grows.
Total price tag: About $30.

You have cows don't you? Generally those cows are fed grain. Can you not order some from a local company?
Just sayin.
