SAB prep setup

Hello all.. Been doing a lot of agar work and I'm loving it.. What I want to know is what does everyone do to the SAB when getting ready to do agar work? I ask because I think I'm going a bit overboard.. What I do is spray alcohol on the inside of the SAB then wipe all the pasty plates down with a Lysol wipe then put them and anything else Ill be working with in the SAB and get to work..
Is this too much? I ask cause the smell of alcohol can be a bit overwhelming and don't want my house to smell like that..
Sorry if this sounds stupid and thanks to all who reply..

I practice the same techniques, and take a few extra steps to be careful. I of course, flame sterilize any metal tools, use latex gloves and sanitized with rubbing alcohol. I always tend to take a shower prior to agar work as well as wear clean clothes. Also any airflow in the room must be stopped for at least 2 hours prior.
Under these conditions, I'll do up to 10-15 plates at a time, depending on what I'm aiming for. I pick the healthy ones for transfer or further isolation and inoculate about a dozen qts with the rest.

Lysol is bunk. Instead of alcohol, spray the walls with soapy water. Having the air thick with fumes can lead to an accident.

Boy, my work area is just too fucking clean......said no mycologist ever. Just 1 paper towel moistened with alcohol is sufficient. No need to die from vapors.

I don't shower before anymore. After I get home I
1) Setup SAB area 2) Spray down SAB with soapy water. 3) Put on my Tyvek suit with no legs (basically a long sleeve Tyvek shirt) 4) Put on my disposable vinyl gloves and rubber band my wrist so there is no skin showing between my gloves and Tyvek sleeve. 5) Spray my arms down with the soapy water. 6) Soak a paper towel in 90% alcohol and toss it in the the box. 7) Move the alcohol container far away from the torch. 8) Put my stuff in the box, wipe hands wipe it down and get it ready. 9) Wipe down the scalpel handle. 10) Flame sterilize and get to work.

Yeah... dont' be spraying your SAB with alcohol unless you're going to wipe it all up. You have to flame stuff near the openings to your SAB so you don't want a fucking jet and miniature explosion of blue fire to shoot out of your box and wrinkle your hand into a shriveled concentration of pain. It happens a lot. I'm sure if you bring up SAB alcohol explosions/fires you'll get a few people who reluctantly and shamefully admit they've been there.

I caught my arms on fire not once but twice. Enclosed in a 3x3 max closet. Man that was scary. Posted it 3 months or so ago.
Is there anything alcohol kills that bleach won't? I'd think just using a bleach water would work for everything needed. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm abit leery on using alcohol anymore...

I think you should use soap water moab. None of these crazy chemicals are good to be breathing or wiping on yourself.

I just wish I started agar when I first started.. It's truely a fun and amazing process to watch

To be honest I don't use soapy water. I just use water. That's how important still air is. Just water and technique is all you need.
