battery operated motion sensor cameras

I'm not very tech savvy, and am interested in getting a battery operated camera (the kind that has a motion sensor which starts recording once it detects movement, then sends a notification to your android). Looking to spend around $100-$150. I've been researching it quite a bit and, one of my concerns has been whether or not the signal given out by the device could be picked up and therefore serve to broadcast where the hiding spot is (or would encryption eliminate this problem? ).
This would be for a grow setup i have in the woods. Thanks

All RF sources can be detected. That's the nature of broadcasting. No. Encryption will not eliminate the problem. Imagine standing in the woods and hearing someone screaming in some language that you can't understand. That's encryption... No one will be able to understand the contents of the broadcast, but anyone will be able to detect the transmission source.
With that said: You're being paranoid. No one is going to walk around outside scanning for RF sources. You'll get busted because of airborne IR scans LONG before anyone notices your cameras broadcasting low power RF.

thanks...that's pretty much the question i needed answered. I think i'll just scrap the whole camera idea and go with a low tech solution, such as keeping an eye out for footprints and leaving a piece of string or something on the door zipper to tell if someone's been in the area or tent

Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but *you* may want to look into the possibility of grabbing an RF scanner. I like your camera idea quite a bit, as it allows you to know when to abandon without putting yourself at risk. You know who else probably likes your camera idea? Some random cop that stumbles on your tent for whatever reason and decides that he'd rather eat donuts at the local cop shop while occasionally checking his phone instead of hiking.
Or, as far as high-tech solutions go, you could try to get an RF scanner with like a 50-ft range instead of a camera. Everybody has a phone in their pocket, and every phone connects to a tower periodically, and assuming your grow is in range of a tower, you'll pick up trespassers in the area. You'll definitely pick up a cop radio. I'm pretty sure this will also solve your "random wildlife triggering motion sensor" issue, as I doubt many deer have phone plans (though you never know, telecom companies are persistent).

thanks brother! this is a good idea which i'm now seriously considering...the way it works reminds me of the guy from 'No country for old men' using the device to locate the briefcase of money with the transponder inside
That would be my main worry if the spot were to be discovered...with the police or whomever setting up surveillance, but with the RF device you can apparently approach the hiding spot and detect any sort of surveillance devices in the area

Not "any sort", just the kind that gives off RF waves. Old school wires, mechanical traps, fiber, laser, etc. will still mess you up quick. I guess if you got a really high-end RF scanner, you might be able to pick up traces off wires though. Probably wouldn't work for light.

actually i've been scouring the internet lately, trying to see whether the ones for under $100 would work for police surveillance...i was under the impression that an RF scanner could pick up any electrical device putting out a signal, especially if it's out in a forest

the wifi 'gamecameras' like your talking about are alot more than 150$ anyway (more like 700 for a cheap one)
Althow some of the more high teck ones only send out a signal once a day for just that purpose.
Either way police typicaly find them with night vision as the flash shows up very clearly even on the best models.
if I were you I would go 'old school' and learn some tracking skills
