And remember that just cause a test said so doesn't make it so either. When my father took the test he thought he was an INFJ when he is really the inverse, an ENFP. As with most things, the more you understand it the more accurate it is. I definitely understand ESTJs a lot because of empathizing and researching my opposite.

interesting that many of us who are INFP now used to be INTP perhaps the feeling function is something that takes a while to develop?

Just as with the Kiersey test, this one also gives me INTJ. I am unequivocally NOT an INTJ. Both tests are inaccurate on the J-P axis. I have a certain expertise with the MBTI, having used it since 1980 in grad school in a research project under the supervision of a Zurich-trained Jungian analyst. I administered and hand-scored 1000 MBTIs back then. I am an INTP, as is my wife. The MBTI is the original instrument, 126 A or B items (no uncertainty allowed, it's got to be 49% vs.51% for any given item), and none of these spin-offs have ever been accurate relative to the MBTI.

Yet that cynical view of reality is unlikely to stop an interested INTJ from achieving a result they believe to be relevant.
I was actually talking with someone about exactly this earlier.
I took this test a while ago so I could talk with my therapist about it, was fun.

When I look at some of the different write-ups to be found on google or at wikipedia, it seems accurate that I am an INTJ. But if you look above, you'll see several INFPs who used to score as INTPs. Whatever that means. I take your point, yeah, the linked test is in no way scientific. Fun anyway.

I considered myself an introvert for 25 years. Now I realize I'm an extrovert.
It's not that I "changed". Anxiety, depression, and addiction can mask our true selves.
I think there is a bit of danger when proclaiming oneself a certain "personality type"
As we develop and evolve, we need to be prepared and willing to be a different person.

yeah I see personality traits as an outer layer of our being, and can shift, change, evolve. we are moreso the core which is beyond our ability to classify or limit in definitions it's like what kind of clothing do you want to wear... only for most of us it becomes a habitual preference for let's say khakis and green shirts the more we move inward and disidentify with the clothing, the more our options for diverse self-expression expands

if anyone is interested in psychometrics, it seems there are a couple of alternative tests i've found off-the-bat that seem to fallen under less criticism then the Miggs-Bryer/Jungian methodology (and more antiquated methodology -- but who can blame them, this started with those damn Greek philosophers Plato and Hippocrates).

ISTP; I knew that I was introvert. Can't remember what the rest meant. I know the synopsis was "cool onlooker". (that kind of pinpointed the best and worst of me) They said it was their first graduate cohort ever (87 or 88) that was majority introvert.

! Environmental factors (ie, in-breeding [most of us stem from in-breeding if you go down the genetic line far enough) leads to ~ Genetic factors (ie, lower cognitive function of mind due to genetic disorders -- and variability of genetic variance) leads to ~ eventually improvement of Environmental factors, such as educational, sociological, and domestic, feasibility in the attainment of good cognitive abilities, leading to the Flynn effect
seems to be cogent. (sorry for off-topic post, brainstorming)

I totally agree. I think that MBTI should be called a character test because it really isn't your personality, it's how your mind processes the world around you. Many INFPs seek to understand the world with logic, empathy, and intuition while INTPs instincually process the world of logical fluidly. I think most INFPs aspire to be as logical as they can while INTPs don't really have to try. I think that this is why many INFPs think they are Ts becauze any smart one earnestly wants to be. INTPs can sometimes lack the ability to empathize with others needs from them emotionally.
The difference between T and F types is subtle, but unmistakable when you can recognize it. T and F types can express their emotions and even extrovert them while still being an introvert. The real difference between all the types is realizing what you process first in any split second situation. Do you think logically first then feel or feel it then think logically about it?

ISTPs first approach each situation with a flexible logical and then second sense the situation unlike INTPs who use their intuition. ISTPs are said to have great reflexes, Bruce Lee is a famous one.

The ENTP personality type is the ultimate devil's advocate, thriving on the process of shredding arguments and beliefs and letting the ribbons drift in the wind for all to see. Unlike their more determined Judging (J) counterparts, ENTPs don't do this because they are trying to achieve some deeper purpose or strategic goal, but for the simple reason that it's fun. No one loves the process of mental sparring more than ENTPs, as it gives them a chance to exercise their effortlessly quick wit, broad accumulated knowledge base, and capacity for connecting disparate ideas to prove their points.

INTP
Just to echo what a few other people were saying, the idea is cool, but the test is often pretty faulty. When I actually took the test it put me like 50/50 between J and P, but after reading what those letters affect, I don't really identify with the J at all
The other thing I think most people overlook is that these types are really just generalizations of large groups, for example very few people who would consider themselves INTP's would agree with every aspect of what makes the model "INTP", it's really just a helpful approximation.

yeah and I would add that I think it's possible that if one reads about their type and identifies with it, they could potentiate those characteristics in their being. I don't think it's best to be too tightly defined by any system that way as it might limit your spontaneous expression. What we are is beyond categorization, though they can be helpful at times I think

When I was growing up I thought thought of myself as an INTP who aspired to be an ENTP but was really an INFP all along. XD You Gandalfs of the world always inspire me with your debate skills, Jon Stewart is very likely an ENTP.

Taking a certain pleasure in being the underdog, ENTPs enjoy the mental exercise found in questioning the prevailing mode of thought, making them irreplaceable in reworking existing systems or shaking things up and pushing them in clever new directions. However, they'll be miserable managing the day-to-day mechanics of actually implementing their suggestions.
