If it's coir mixed with peat then you have to pasteurize it, defeating the purpose of even fucking with coir at all..

I wouldn't have thought it would contain regular peat moss. What brand(s) was this that you saw?
I think we need to know the brand that is being talked about here.
I found this information from google, directly quoting " Coir is the outside layer of husk that surrounds the shell of the coconut. It consists mainly of fibres, which have traditionally been used to manufacture rope, carpets, doormats, upholstery stuffing, brushes etc. Between these fibres is the corky substance called coir pith or coir dust, which has recently been widely recognised as the superior growing medium in which to grow tomatoes, roses and many other crops. The horticulture industry often calls this substrate coco-peat (or cocopeat) or coir-peat. Sometimes it is known by similar sounding brand names."
Now I'm also wondering what I should ask for at the grow shop because they seem to stock up on this coco peat...

Cocopeat is coco coir. Its just marketing to try to make the coir attractive as a peat substitute.

I've seen coco peat next to the coir bricks at pet value and I avoid using them because it looks like there's little bits of green peat moss mixed in with the coir.
When I look up coco peat online I just see regular coir bricks.
I'll try to upload a pic later. I'm going to be picking up some coir today

Yeah show us what it looks like, I can't show you a photo of the brick I'm going to buy because the site it's on is not a shroomery sponsor. But it basically looks like what I've seen going around on shroomery pics.
The guy I'm buying it from says it is just the husk of the coconut.

I went to pet value today and it's literally the first time it wasn't on the shelf coincidentally. But by the sounds of it I hope you're getting compressed coir fibers and not just chunks of husk

Though some of these say peat, they are in fact just straight coco coir. Just bad wording. That MG product is a diff story. It clearly says peat moss. Also keep in mind that almost all MG products are charged with their nutrients, including their perlite.
