'This your brain on drugs' actor just voted to approve recreational weed therooster.com
In one more sign of how completely flipped the country has changed its relationship to drugs, the actor who once cracked an egg in a frying pan while scolding the youth of America with, "This is your brain on drugs," just cast his vote to legalize recreational marijuana in California.
John Roselius has had a strong career in Hollywood as a stuntman and star in TV shows such as Starsky and Hutch and in movies The Truman Show and Con-Air. But it was one Saturday morning's worth of work shooting the 1987 anti-drug ad — the height of Reagan-era "Just Say No" propaganda — where Roselius hulked over a stove in a grim apartment and asked: "Any questions?"
That particular scene helped frighten millions of kids away from pursuing viable education about drugs and etched his disappointed dad face into the public's ignorance. To this day, he says people on the street still call him “Egg Guy.”
Twenty-eight years later, the Egg Guy spent another afternoon mailing in his ballot to the California government, voting "yes" on the Adult Use of Marijuana Act.
"I'm 100 percent behind legalizing it, are you kidding?" he asks. "It's healthier than alcohol. And the violence is 99 percent down from alcohol."
As 5 states vote to legalize recreational marijuana on Nov. 8, Roselius is joining the majority of adults who will likely vote for legalization in all five. He’s a part of the 60 percent of Americans who now support marijuana legalization.
Roselius is currently recovering from a heart transplant, and says he’d consider smoking pot for the pain — though he hasn't yet. He also admits that marijuana doesn't fry your brain like an egg in hot cast iron. In fact, he knew it didn't even when he made the ad. How? Because he'd smoked a bunch of it, mostly during the 1960s, when he was living in San Francisco, often on the dock at lunchtime, often with his other buddies in the Marines. "It was the most relaxed I ever was," he said. He also did coke a couple times in the ‘80s. And says it was fine.
So why'd he do it the ad? Money, he says. He made $360 for a few hours of work. Although, he didn't think it would become famous and run for 14 years. He's still angry at the Partnership for a Drug Free America, the ad-makers, for not paying him royalties on it — or "holding fees."
"They're dishonest," he admits.
Roselius is just an actor, but it's shocking to hear one of the strongest voices in the War on Drugs say he always knew that what he was portrayed wasn't totally accurate. But the way Roselius handled drugs back then was similar to the way a lot of America handled it. Roselius had his public stance, which treated drugs like they were poison, and then he had his private experience with drugs, which was innocuous … even positive.
"You ever noticed when you smoked weed, how music is?" he asked, rhetorically. "I was smoking a joint, and I was listening to a stereo and I thought I was the drum. And I'm laughing and laughing and I'm happy. I'm the drum. I'm the drum! You understand? And nobody was punching anybody in the face or calling you an m-f'er."
Roselius says he also experienced one of pot's only downsides. "Instead of two hot dogs for lunch, you'd eat six," he jokes. But all drugs have downsides. At the time he filmed the commercial, he admits he was an alcoholic. It clouded his mind and fuzzied up his memory. He's been sober 28 years now. But if he had to choose, today, between a beer and a joint, he'd pick the joint.
Aside from pot and cocaine, he’s never tried any other drugs like mushrooms or LSD, because he says "mushrooms are bad" and LSD makes people "jump out the fifth story window."
Oh well. Some myths die harder than others.

As of now, we have more rights with medical marijuana than we would if this recreational law passed.

The problem here is people hear "legalize weed" and obviously the first thought is going to be "yes I want to do that." BUT, they aren't simply legalizing weed. There are 64 pages of bullshit regulation written by people who don't use cannabis and have absolutely no idea what the fuck they are talking about. The restrictions and taxes they are trying to impose are ridiculous and IMO we are better off having it illegal until someone writes a better proposition.
Legalization without regulation.

So you want people to be arrested for marijuana and have their lives ruined until the law is absolutely perfect. You're one of those people who were tricked by anti-marijuana groups into voting against your own interests. If you don't like buying pot from corportations...................

Good thing you aren't registered to vote!
Allison Margolin, one of the most famous marijuana lawyers in California posted this the other day:

Here's a summary of what would change under prop 64:

There are a lot of greedy pot farmers out there who are making lots of money due to prohibition propping up prices. It's unfortunate that they value money more than the freedom of their customers. They are spreading lots of lies about prop 64, and many good people believe them.

That's one of the common lies spread by the greedy pot growers. Prop 64 does not change prop 215. Prop 215 is not enough - you shouldn't have to lie to a doctor to avoid unjust prosecution.
Prop 64 lets anyone grow up to 6 plants, and reduces a lot of marijuana felonies to misdemeanors. The only people who would be worse off under prop 64 are people in the age range 18 - 20, and they can get a medical marijauna license if they qualify. If prop 64 passes, the smell of marijuana would no longer be probable cause for a search. If California legalizes marijuana, it's very likely that a lot more states would follow.
It's very important to vote yes on prop 64.

I do, and I will. Growing 6 plants indoors is very unproductive and I have no plan to waste my time with that. Thanks for being polite and respectful.
Alan, the proposition does effect medical marijuana in more ways than one. Not sure who told you it doesn't. Most importantly, it imposes silly-ass taxes on cultivation, including a set price per ounce of LEAF MATTER produced. That's right, LEAF MATTER.
As for growers spreading lies, please. They are not backed by corporations and they are not putting out multi-million dollar ads to voice their concerns.
Adults can already possess less than an ounce. The fine is only $100, and more than half the time that is not going to get issued. Cops don't give a shit about adults using cannabis. Do you really think limiting people to 1 ounce is reasonable? Why can't I carry around a pound if I want to? Is there a limit to how many cases of beer I can go by right now? (hint: the answer is no)
And like I said, cultivation of 6 plants INDOORS ONLY, why the hell should we vote for that kind of limitation? I should be able to have as many plants as I want and rock them right next to my tomato garden for the world to see.
It's not black and white. Yes WE ALL want weed legal, but every damn aspect of it doesn't need to be regulated and controlled. IT'S A PLANT.
And no, I don't own a pot farm and I'm not worried about losing my income or having to get a job or whatever other bullshit people want to say. Pot farmers work harder than most people who say that kind of shit anyway so I'm not sure what point they think they are making.

Also, I know we see the revenue boost in Colorado and we all get excited, which we should. But, legalization in Colorado has been a partial-success at best. We need to learn from their mistakes and do this thing right. And we definitely need to avoid stupid rules like 10mg max dosage for edibles.
Plus, Colorado is still getting most of their weed ILLEGALLY from California, that should speak volumes.

Medical marijuana patients have to pay every so and so months to reactivate their medical licenses tho, with this new law they won't have to.

I pay $60 once a year, the price varies though. There can be other fees, such as commercial license permits, but as far as I know nothing unreasonable.
Anywho, read the prop, consider information from both sides, and form your opinion. I'm just saying this legalization hype isn't everything it should be, gotta read that fine print.

The rest of the country does not see it that way - everyone is watching to see what California will do.

From http://www.canorml.org/Cal_NORML_Guide_to_AUMA
The initiative does not alter the protections of the Compassionate Use Act of 1996 (Prop 215) allowing medical use of marijuana (11362.45(i)). Physician recommendations must conform to minimal standards already established under MMRSA and current medical marijuana legislation (11362.712).
Here's the actual law: (11362.45)
Nothing in section 11362.1 shall be construed or interpreted to amend, repeal, affect, restrict, or preempt: (i) Laws pertaining to the Compassionate Use Act of 1996.
Quote:
Most importantly, it imposes silly-ass taxes on cultivation, including a set price per ounce of LEAF MATTER produced. That's right, LEAF MATTER.
That's only commercial cultivation.
Quote:
As for growers spreading lies, please. They are not backed by corporations and they are not putting out multi-million dollar ads to voice their concerns.
It's the same group of growers against the AUMA that were against Prop 19 6 years ago.
Quote:
Adults can already possess less than an ounce. The fine is only $100, and more than half the time that is not going to get issued.
Decriminalized is a lot different than legal. When it's decriminalized, the odor of marijuana is still probable cause for a search - when it's legalized, it would not. It also makes a huge difference for people who are already in the criminal justice system - currently people on probation get put back in jail if they use Cannabis.
Quote:
Cops don't give a shit about adults using cannabis.
Depends on the cop and their mood. They still write plenty of tickets for Cannabis, and currently having over 1 oz is a felony. This would change to a misdemeanor under the AUMA.
Quote:
Do you really think limiting people to 1 ounce is reasonable?
No, but we'll never get a perfect law. It's a lot better than what we have now.
Quote:
And like I said, cultivation of 6 plants INDOORS ONLY, why the hell should we vote for that kind of limitation?
Prop 64 allows everyone in California to grow 6 plants outdoors or indoors, and keep all of the marijuana that they harvest. 6 outdoor plants can yield quite a bit.
