Inoculation Loop

I bought an inoculation loop from ebay and it arrived home today.
This is the first time that I have an inoc loop in my hands and the twisted wire part is bendy and malleable as fuck.
My noob ass thought the wire had to be rigid The following is a copy of the item description that the vendor has on ebay:
"The item for sale is a top quality Microstreaker Inoculation loop made of twisted nickel chromium wire with a lightweight insulated aluminium handle. Measuring not more than 60mm length, it conforms to Howie recommendations. "
The wire part measures 60mm in length (2,36 inches) and it's made of nickel chromium.
So I have a couple of questions: -Is it normal for the wire part to be this bendy? -Is nickel chromium the right material? Can this material withstand the high temperatures of flame-sterilization?

1. I have seen different kinds of inoculation loops. Bendy and thicker ones.
2. Yes. It is possible to flame sterilize. (NiChr. is also used as e-cigarette heating wire)

I cut mine down a lot I'd half that then more spare wire, but I'm a tight arse. Edit just reread it came like that, mine you wire yourself.

Yes the commercially available innoc loops seems to always be very flimsy. It can be too weak to get spores off foil prints sometimes and that is really frustrating. I make my own loop out of ecig wire, 26 guage wire that I twist a folded piece in a cordless drill. Basically fold a length of about 24" of wire in half, put something round that is the diameter of the loop you want (like a chopstick or something) at the folded joint and tighten the loose ends in a drill chuck, then hold the wire tight with the chopstick and let the drill turn till the wire is super tightly twisted. The part where the wire was around the chopstick or whatever will be the loop end. If this doesnt make any sense there are lots of videos of people making twisted wire for ecigs all over youtube. A1 Kanthal or nichrome is the wire type but any resistance wire should be fine. Just make it long and it will be its own handle too.

I think there is no need for a DIY inoculation loop. It will work fine because you do not need to push it very hard against the print. Slow rubbing over the spore print is definitely possible with an inoculation loop like yours.

if it was thick enough not to be bendy it would take longer to heatup and longer to cool down. Just like a thin bit of foil holds little heat compared to a aluminum baking tray.

Yes, its commonly used in heating elements. I have broken some old ones open to get the wire. I usually use my own tools though, they are stainless steel strips with sharpened ends with copper covers on the end, its double ended with 2 caps. I heat these copper caps with a blow torch and let it all cool down. This means I have to do no flaming later on. I bring them into the SAB and uncap them. There is a risk of the cap being dirty and transferring onto the tool but I have had no problems.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense
