Me too!

Those soups sound delicious.

My understanding of the ketogenic diet is unlimited vegetables, healthy proteins and healthy fats. The only restriction is on sugar and carbs, no restrictions on veggies at all.

A lady I know makes the most wonderful soups that consist almost completely of pureed vegetables, they are stupendousoly delicious and of course super healthy.

Thats one thing i have agfainst ketogenic diets, I prefer to eat vegetables by the pound but you can't with those diets.

I LOVE veggies.

I don't believe in diets or fad diets. People expect an easy, quick way to deal with being overweight. It adds even more stress and anxiety to someone who already feels trapped. Diets are almost never a lifestyle, they are temporary. People go on diets to drop the fat then they almost IMMEDIATELY go back to their old habits and gain everything back. That is extremely popular in the UK
It's good you already like healthy food so stick with what you know and enjoy, instead of torturing yourself with unnecessary (i.e. not having some soup.... not the same as having a pizza) restrictions.

I believe it's as "easy" as eating very, very clean and working damn hard. You don't need to over-complicate it

You say "I don't believe in diets" and then you say "It's as easy as eating very very clean".

But eating very clean IS a diet- and a demanding one at that.

Having a proper diet is essential to health and weight loss. So people who say they don't believe in diets aren't being coherent- that's like saying you don't believe in exercise.

Both diet and exercise are indispensable.

Eating very very clean is a lifestyle, not a diet. A diet is almost always a temporary dietary regime. i.e. "Oh wow, I am going on holiday in 6 months. I better go on a diet during this time to get thin" then "That holiday was great! Time to munch down this large pizza, bottle of coke and never exercise again!".
These diets are almost never viable and functional in the long term due to many reasons.
But it does seem the meanings of those words are clashing with our different cultures. Diet also has several meanings:

Quote:

the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.

Quote:

a special course of food to which a person restricts themselves, either to lose weight or for medical reasons.
restrict oneself to small amounts or special kinds of food in order to lose weight.

Eating clean is a diet, which is itself part of a lifestyle.

Diet refers to the food choices you make. It is a permanent, ongoing thing.

We all have to make food choices every day. We all follow a diet whether we like it or not.

To improve our health we must improve our diet.

To maintain those health improvements we must maintain our healthy diet.

Obviously if we stop following the healthy diet and return to the unhealthy one the benefits will be lost.

This only proves that following a healthy diet and keeping to it on a long term permanent basis is essential.

Diet does not mean or imply some short term temporary thing.

It refers to the food choices we make , by definition we follow a diet as long as we live as we make food choices every day.

Eating clean is a diet, not a lifestyle, because eating clean is only a small part of an overall healthy lifestyle that must include exercise, proper sleep, positive thinking, healthy relationships etc.

Eating clean  (healthy diet) is only one part of an overall healthy lifestyle.

Saying you don't believe in diet makes no more sense than saying you don't believe in exercise.  Both are indispensable parts of a healthy lifestyle.

The fact that the benefits of a diet go away if you stop following the diet simply shows you need to continue your diet permanently.

The benefits of exercise also go away when you stop exercising.

That is why proper diet and proper exercise must be permanent parts of a life long healthy lifestyle.

Saying you don't believe in diets is meaningless - everyone has a diet because everyone eats.

What matters is eating properly , and eating properly means following a healthy diet.

Nothing could be more counterproductive to someone trying to lose weight than "not believing in diets " because proper diet is half of what will allow the person to accomplish their weight loss goals.

Everyone has a diet, the key is having a healthy one and keeping to it.

We both agree that a diet that you only follow for a short time will obviously not have permanent benefits.

With diet and exercise the benefits begin being lost as soon as the discipline of healthy eating or healthy exercise is abandoned.

This shows that consistency in diet and exercise are essential.

Yes a short term diet will have only short term benefits.

This means that a proper diet is a permanent one, not a short term one.

 Typical unnecessary exaggerated Moonshoe rant. I just explained to you we quite clearly have different definitions of a "diet" and why the word "diet" is often abused and misused nowadays. I'll say again:
"When people go on diets, it is almost always temporary and used when people are trying to set goals within a limited period of time. Once (and if) the goal is reached, these people then usually completely forget about the diet and go back to a bad lifestyle; no exercise and bad nutrition".
I've already explained the reasons why "diets" are often bad ideas several times already.

In general, I also prefer calling it "good nutrition" instead of "diet". Good nutrition is a part of a healthy lifestyle (amongst all the all stuff you mentioned in that rant).

If you still don't understand what I'm trying to explain, let's agree to disagree, shall we?  :highfive:

When people go on diets it is often temporary.  The benefits are therefore also temporary.  Therefore, in order to obtain permanent benefits , stick to the diet permanently.

Daily exercise and daily healthy diet maintained consistently lifelong is the only way to obtain and maintain lifelong good health.

We aren't disagreeing. We both recognize that healthy eating is essential and we both know that healthy eating must be maintained lifelong if the benefits are to be permanent.
