Please see this: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23756589#23756589
Good luck to all my friends in convincing the other side that their point of view is incorrect.

It is simple. If 90% of the human mind is undergoing subconscious processing, and conscious is just a reflection of the subconscious decision making process, then I believe that choice is limited in people, therefore, there cannot truly be freewill.

There has been a long controversy as to whether subjectively 'free' decisions are determined by brain activity ahead of time. We found that the outcome of a decision can be encoded in brain activity of prefrontal and parietal cortex up to 10 s before it enters awareness. This delay presumably reflects the operation of a network of high-level control areas that begin to prepare an upcoming decision long before it enters awareness.

This article reviews recent electrophysiological findings from this computational perspective. The focus will be on basic computations: (1) accumulation of evidence (what is the cellular basis of temporal accumulation of information?), (2) formation of a categorical choice (what is the termination rule for a deliberation process in neuronal terms?); (3) reward-based adaptation (are values of alternative responses learned by neurons or synapses; what may be the underlying plasticity process?); (4) stochasticity inherent in choice behavior (how is the uncertainty about the world represented in the brain? what are the intrinsic neuronal sources of randomness in choice behavior?). These computations are at the core of many decision processes, regardless of their diversity and complexity; therefore, understanding their neuronal underpinnings is essential for a biological foundation of decision making.

Quote:
Understanding how self-initiated behavior is encoded by neuronal circuits in the human brain remains elusive. We recorded the activity of 1019 neurons while twelve subjects performed self-initiated finger movement. We report progressive neuronal recruitment over ∼1500 ms before subjects report making the decision to move. We observed progressive increase or decrease in neuronal firing rate, particularly in the supplementary motor area (SMA), as the reported time of decision was approached. A population of 256 SMA neurons is sufficient to predict in single trials the impending decision to move with accuracy greater than 80% already 700 ms prior to subjects' awareness. Furthermore, we predict, with a precision of a few hundred ms, the actual time point of this voluntary decision to move. We implement a computational model whereby volition emerges once a change in internally generated firing rate of neuronal assemblies crosses a threshold.
Edit: i fixed the second and third links so they work, and you just have to use a tab on the page to see the full text. doesn't cost a dime.
