I will no longer discuss politics. (The Human Mind Thread 2) * 1
    #23756589 - 10/20/16 11:56 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Because of my recent fascination with the human mind, and because I want to relate to as many people as possible in my attempts to understand people and how we think and behave, i will no longer discuss politics.

It is simple.  If 90% of the human mind is undergoing subconscious processing, and conscious is just a reflection of the subconscious decision making process, then I believe that choice is limited in people, therefore, there cannot truly be freewill.

Let's take an example:  people's choices are made, and solutions given, by a fixed and expanding set of references i.e. experience. While it may be possible to expand the experience set to 'open the mind' to new viewpoints, the older, fixed experiences seem to influence the subconscious, thus the conscious, decision making more.

A political example:  the debates:  Because each person already came with their preconceived ideas of the other, and their fixed experiences, and the MANIPULATION that has been applied to their thought process by political ads, etc, then they see what they want to see in say, a debate.

Therfore, I would rather not ever discuss politics again, because it leads to bad feelings between people, and I would rather have good feelings; that is, i can agree to disagree since I would rather have open and friendly discourse with others concerning the workings of the mind.

Other topics are open, of course, for rational discussion.  But i have come to the conclusion that emotions rule the minds of most humans, especially in politics.

So, I am apolitical at this point.  I have no opinion. :smug:

Sometimes in stroke victims they'll fabricate reasons for why they cant move their arms, legs, or whatever. They come up with reasons like being too tired, or simply not wanting to and get a glazed over look when you tell them its because of paralysis. The minds a fascinating thing.

I can tell you I have recently pulled off a few really good mentalist tricks, and been working with stage magic and hypnosis, and I've come to one startling discovery:

The human mind sees what it wants to see.  If it is expecting to see a spoon bent, by God, it will see it.

the subconscious mind cannot distinguish reality from imagination. only the conscious mind can, potentially; using logic and reason; and hopefully not having any kind of disconnection in the psyche from conscious reality.

this is why schizophrenia, for example. or shamanism.

You've raised a good point.  But that is the INPUT.  The subconscious mind lets the executive function pick.  But if the executive is bypassed, then false input can be given.

The output is mostly subconcious processing of learned experience and input.

Now think about this: garbage in, garbage out.  You can influence someone by bypassing their executive function and giving them a false input, i.e. one the executive normally wouldn't accept.

we are all just convincing people. it's the name of the game.
it's the game of the name.

and like i said, potentially...not inherently. but potentially. you need to use your faculties, otherwise, these false inputs can be easily derived from said un-assessed sources; that and the input of false executive functions can easily be imputed to outside factors that you potentially do not (or cannot) assess, as well.

Absolutely.  You might say that every single human being survives by some degree of manipulation of others.

we all manipulate one another, on a finite level, that most do not comprehend, and may wish not to. i catch myself manipulating people all the time...whether by accident or by way of my influence.

sorta like Trump!

(therefore, being an individual is what people strive for, regardless of their beliefs. no matter then ends, the means is always for I. the I you may attribute to yourself, though, might just be a fake supplementary "I" that helps someone else, more than it helps you...the goal of society, if there is one, is to help integrate that process into mutual game settings.

It is not a bad thing in a sense; all humans are manipulative.  Its a survival trait.

it's a trait in ecosystems, that the mutual benefit outweighs the norm. so if manipulation can work to help mutual parties benefit, then it's ok...the whole point in trying to work together with one another is to find the means to do so -- without creating harbingers.

did you know that bonobos used to be called pygmy chimpanzees?  its true, they were considered to be a subset of chimps.  They are similar in many ways but not in terms of group hierarchy.  its interesting stuff.  if you haven't read about it, you should.  i think you'd get a kick out of how bonobos solve disputes between rival groups.

I was thinking the other day that political discourse was just like watching television; time wasted that I could be improving my mind with a good book or higher level topics than politics. It doesn't mean I don't have AN opinion on politics; it is just that i won't share my opinions or question others anymore.

Congrats on being cured of hep.

Mesc is probably my fave psych, Ive smoked dmt a handful of times but didn't break through so maybe that would be cool, but I love that mellow mesc feeling where you're tripping really hard, yet calm as can be.

It fucks your head up too, did you know that?  There are cures now, getting cheaper.  If you are so bad you are drained all the time--and I KNOW what that feeling is--you should get the cure.

The tired feeling, sometimes, all you want to do is roll over and go to sleep. If you do get out of bed, you might feel great for an hour; suddenly, like a thunderstorm coming out of a clear blue sky, you feel depressed and want to go sleep.

Sometimes you don't want to move, or think, or do anything because you are so tired.  So you just lay, or sit, and daydream.

When its really bad, you will begin to wish that you could just get it over with and not be miserable anymore.

Am I right?

Youre right but i often pretend i dont have it. I try not to dwell on it. Im on the mrthadone clinic so im forced to wake up every morning to go get my dose which helps. I always burn out around 4 oclock even if i do absolutely nothing all day. Its like walking around with a cinderblock on your back.

I dont notice any change in my mental state from it but it could be fucking it up..like i said i dont like blaming my hep c for things even though deep down i know its the problem.

Nobody believes me anout the energy loss and i always am told to get a job or go to school but no matter how much i tell people my hep c wont allow it the more people just call me lazy and useless. I don't even wanna have sex or do anything i am so tired. Forget working out or playing basketball..i have no motivation for anything

I was on interferon and almost had it cured until i relapsed and got infected again. Im waiting to get on the new medicine but my health insurance wont cover me yet

Something there is mysteriously formed,
Existing before Heaven and Earth,
Silent, still, standing alone, unchanging,
All-pervading, unfailing,
I do not know its name; I call it tao.
If forced to give it a name, I call it
Great (ta). Being great, it flows out;
Flowing out means far-reaching;
Being far-reaching, it is said to return.

It's just a shot away..

I actually believe that after surviving HCV.  I wish you well.

I never get nausea from it, I lay down after consuming and listen to music until it kicks in, without moving much you won't get nausea, also eat a little bit of crystallized ginger after consumption for help with stomach issues.

My silly theory is this, I supposedly have some American Indian blood in me, so think that's why I don't have negative reactions to certain substances, and don't consume alcohol because I know I would have a problem with it like many American Indians have had.

I know Indians in the South West USA, Central/South American that would consume certain cacti would be known for having strong stomachs for the stuff, so that's why I think my little theory about whey mesc doesn't bother my stomach.

I have been told I am 1/4th Cherokee, but don't know if that's accurate.

I just had my first mescaline trip since I was cured of HCV; I tripped last week.  Suddenly, my existence changed.

Congrats on being cured of hep.

Mesc is probably my fave psych, Ive smoked dmt a handful of times but didn't break through so maybe that would be cool, but I love that mellow mesc feeling where you're tripping really hard, yet calm as can be.

I just wish it didnt cause all that nausea

You poor bastards. Mescal is one of the few psyche's that DOESN'T cause me nausea, thank fuck - I take it quite frequently, as it's my absolute fav too.
