Ever made a ghetto drum kit?
    #23754842 - 10/20/16 01:05 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Been toying with the idea for a while, slowly collecting cool sounding pieces of metal, time to start putting it together. Made me wonder if other folks around here had ever done something similar.
Not many on youtube, but there are some good ones

Most people stick with buckets and small sized stuff, I was leaning more for 55 gallon drums with mallets, something with a big sound like that anyway. And more oddball pieces of metal, such a large range of sounds to work with. Like one of those really thick pieces where you can just feel the pure bass-y tones, or thin twangy pieces similar to a jaw harp, and of course the wind chime rack. I think I could end up with something really cool if I just kept adding to it over the years.

So yeah, anybody done something like this?

I've been doing this a lot recently, walking around my job, house, and neighborhood banging on shit with different shit and keeping or making mental notes of what sounds like it would fit into a set. Eventually I will record the sounds individually or in small patterns and use them as percussion samples in the weird psychedelic beat based soundscapes I call my music...
No idea how to put it together into a physical "set" though...

thats awesome, I would do the same thing if I had a decent recorder. Used to do a lott of FL studio.

I do the same shit though, always walking around tapping on stuff. I found this one metal bowl at a friends house that is just divine when you put your ear right up to it.

I've only been to one White Sox game at the new stadium cause this buddy of mine bought  us 15 tickets cause Monday night is half price. We were beating the Rangers about 9 to nothing. and we left after 8 innings cause parking is a bitch in Chicago. While we were walking out these 5 black dudes are bashing on ghetto drums. They sounded pretty fucking good.
