T5 bulb question
    #23752507 - 10/19/16 04:38 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

So I need to replace all the bulbs in my "T5 high output fluorescent" light.

It says FLT48: 4FT/ 8 tube which I assume is the kind of bulb I need, but also says "Use 54 watt high output type lamp".

I am not super knowledgeable about lights, pretty much just wondering what exact bulbs I should get.

Would these do the trick: http://hydrobuilder.com/54w-4-ho-t5-3000k.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=901619&gclid=CjwKEAjws5zABRDqkoOniLqfywESJACjdoiGXOfpBFLRLu7UApNF4UM7OLWyxt-mQV1BN_H5u1k_sRoCLMrw_wcB

I don't shop there unless I have to which is pretty much never  There are a few grow stores near me but I want to browse online first to get a good deal.

I just want to make sure I am looking at the right bulbs...

I assume the FLT48 is their product code.

A 54w t-5 bulb should work.

Thanks, now I just need to call a few nearby stores and then compare prices online. Probably going to coast 80-100$ :shakefist:

I found a listing for 4 for 30-40$ but they have a few spectrum's: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Pack-T5-Bulb-54W-Aquarium-Light-Bulb-HO-for-48-4-ft-6500K-10000K-Actinic-Pink-/300916300649?var=&hash=item4610025b69:m:m2kAjaWeu9acAv76wkxhm_A

Available Spectrums:

6500K - Natural daylight. Great for freshwater planted setups.
10000K - Crisp white color, full spectrum daylight.
Actinic 460nm - Emits blue hue. Ideal for coral photosynthesis.
Freshwater Plant - Emits roseate hue. Used for planted setups and general freshwater setups to help bring out the color of fish and plants.

Seems like the 10000K is the way to go. It says they are aquarium lights but I don't see why they wouldn't work for plants. Going to research more I suppose.

Alright here is what I am leaning towards now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/25-Pk-FL54-T5-850-HO-54W-T5-Bulbs-High-Output-5000K-800-Series-Plusrite-/131901376743?hash=item1eb5ef48e7:g:yyIAAOSwHoFXpvuw

25 of those for 90$ with free shipping, I only need 8-10 or so this will give me plenty extra and be over half as expensive as buying them in a smaller amount.

Walmart is for the poor. Hence why i go there. :ilold:

So how more superior are these grow bulbs than regular ones? I remember one time i went to lowes and they had these fluros that were for aquariums and gowing plants. Are they similar spectrums?

I grew peyote under 40watters one time. Good stuff man.

I feel you, I just hate giving them of all places my money :shakefist: and I am not a fan of stealing so I just avoid going there unless I need to.

I don't know much about bulbs honestly, hence this thread. I found a site saying 3500K bulbs are lackluster for cacti and 5000K does well.

I only see bulk deals on 5000K's so I may just stick with those instead of the 10000K's.

Some of the aquarium lights have strange spectrum's meant for coral but the other ones are normal from what I have gathered.

Here are the ones I settled on after more research:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/25pk-Ushio-54w-46in-T5-High-Output-G5-5000k-Fluorescent-Linear-Tube-Light/191853935010?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D39861%26meid%3Df94e7a89f65c4391abda431f6bfd7ac4%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D131901376743
84$ for 25 lights, they put out 5K lumens which is better then the more expensive ones which had a 20K hour lifetime while these say 35K!

Ok what exactly are we growing?

Ive grown peyote, pot, regular plants, trichs even under fluros. But mainly seedlings. Ive always wanted to grow a full pot grow to harvest under fluros. But alas i dont smoke so it seems pointless.

But fluros go a long way in clones. Clones man. Clones. I wish i had some sort of setup to better clone my desirable plants.

Goodluck man and i hope you find thw right ones for your type of plant.

Mainly cacti, I have some seeds I plan to sow under the light as well as many small to medium seedlings I may try to grow through the winter if its bright enough.

I also have some cannabis seeds I may start if I have space but I doubt there will be any  so 99% trichs.

Thanks  goodluck to you as well, what kind of plants are you looking to clone? I have heard a few good methods for various things.

Get warm white and cool white and mix them in the fixture, 3500K and 6500K. The redder light gives energy for the bulk grow, and the bluer gives the bushiness of the plants. Because you are growing cacti, you will probably want a high energy blue at 10k in there as well as it helps cuticle development and helps them ward off pests.

A florida grower I chat with got great results cloning kratom with peat pellets, he recommended a specific size but they were like 50$.

If you find some decent cheaper peat pellets they may work pretty well. I have yet to try and clone my kratom but I plan to follow his advice n try those.

Thanks, I was wondering if mix and matching would work well. To save money I will probably start with the 25 5000K's and buy 2 stronger and weaker ones

The colour temperature of the sun being 5800K, it has always made sense to me to grow my cacti sprouts under lights with close to that.  Seeing as they evolved under it for millions of years.

That is probably what people pay around here honestly, even more maybe. I was expecting to spend 80-100$ on the 8 bulbs I need but ebay deals to the rescue!

I think I am going to be lazy and start with only 5000K's for now but I would like to get some 3000K's and 6500-10000K's :sun:
