Liquid Culture Using Beer! Experimenting
    #23752353 - 10/19/16 03:39 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

I can now vouch that Beer is a very nice in promoting myc growth in an LC
on a big variety of mushrooms.

My recipee was:

4 parts water
1 part beer
just a hint of cane sugar less then a teaspoon.

Procedure was:
-Added 1dl of beer and let it simmer for 5-10min (didnt put the lid on, I let the alcohol and some water evaporate)

-add 4dl parts of water
(I used rainwater for obvious reasons)

And added the cane sugar (any brown sugar works i guess)

Simmer for another 5 min

Finished.

Conclusion:

This produces very rich healthy myc compared to using only honey for example, I forgot it over a day or two and theese beer experimental ones were overdone the complete surface of the medium was covered with thick myc top cake, alot more process then the ones without beer, was like cutting myc out of a petri dish i can highly recommend adding beer!

Follow ups:

Project number 2: On my next experiment I will soak regular grass seeds in beer in hopes that it will boost in anyway

Project number 3: Making Petri dishes using sterilized beer along with agar.

Hope this helps some people and the yeast didnt cause any trouble at all and I actually used 3.5% alcohol beers with big succes using this method.

Peace out.

No pressure cooking or sterilization?

Alcohol evaporates off. Wort would be better than beer. Especially un-hopped

Beer could be fine but there's so many things you already have that work better likely

I presume it was sterilized as usual

I found it OK too, as did others. Probably lots more threads about it if you search. I liked the clarity, after spooning off any crap.

Good to see you are using only small amounts of sugar, I find less works better

I've been thinking about trying an lc.  Was always a taboo for me.  What is a dl of beer?

Deciliters its 10 liters

Either way beer is already "ate" by fungi(yeast)
Cubes can still use some leftovers the yeast didn't but you are much better off using malt extract agar

I've made my living off beer for the last 5-6 years. Sometimes 6200 gallon batches sometimes 93 gallon batch

Hell yeah,

Someone to run my IPA recipes through! Get ready for :pm:s!

And OP-yes, beer can be used for a LC as well as agar if you want to, but I think it's better used if you drink it.

I have successfully made LC from malt extract - but sort of stopped using LC's for the time being. I'm more comfortable with G2G at the moment.
(I am trying one of Pasty's ezLC's though, it was too easy considering I already had the PP5s ready...)

I'll catalogue some questions and hit you soon.

Sorry OP - you can have your thread back!

When you make more than you'll drink in ten lifetime's in a single day beer is just a stickey cold or hot fluid until you punch out
