Is the stem specific for psylocibe?
    #23751888 - 10/19/16 12:24 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

So I noticed, that all wood-loving psilocybes have a specific coloration of the stem (off white with brownish patches) and so I wanted to ask if this belongs along other key features distinguishing psilocybe from other LBM and if anyone here uses this feature as a tell-tell sign

Stems are definitely a distinguishing feature of many Psilocybes. But as for cyans and allenii, at least, we're not talking "off white," but rather very white. They look, in fact, painted white. And that's one of their distinguishing features...even in the pin stage.

I mean...yes stems look similar to most wood loving psilocybes and yes there are other features to identify.

Bruising is one of course.

Id say you kind of answered your own question or already know the answer.

also psilocybes typically have tough fibrous stems, i compare them to straw/hay when they are dried out.

The stems are usually the first thing I notice. However it's worth noting that galerina Marginata and other possibly toxic species can have a superficially similar stem.

Exactly what I was thinking, but I'm happy not to be the first one to look first at the stem
