The local park is surrounded by woodchip, there is a VERY strong smell of mushrooms in some spots but no fruit bodies yet, could the smell be underground mycelium?

Yeah i would say so. Loads of species grow on woodchips though so dont get your hopes up too much. The only thing growing on woodchips at my park is parasol shaggy mains which i have yet to try.

Currently taking two spore prints from the cyans. Do i have to wait til spring to start them or would a newly started patch survive the winter?

Best bet to go spores >agar >grain>indoor woodchips> outdoor woodchips
That's gonna take some time, I would start now tho ( I am!) get your spawn ready indoors ready to go outdoors so you're ready when the moment comes
Let us know how you get on
Good luck!!

Not sure if deadly, but surely not active. Those might be Tubaria species, not sure though.

Any more advice in finding them? Need some psilocybin cyanescens in my life? Want to build a patch in my garden?

The ones i found were on mixed woodchips that had been put there by the council, ive not found any in natural spots yet. I heard its alot rarer to find them that way.

Maybe try supermarket carparks or anywhere with hardwood wood chips. Maybe woodchipped childrens play areas etc. I have only found cyanescens once a few years ago, and they were under and around a hollow oak stump that had been rotting for years, right beside a fishing lake. That's one of them in my avatar picture.

Transfered some colonised woodchips to a new area last night. Also got some spores growing out on agar - looking clean at the moment - going to try expanding onto a wbs cardboard and cocktail stick jars. Plan is to spread these potent fuckers right around this area for next season.

Thanks for the tip. Not a lot of urban where I am... I'll have to take a mooch around an estate the next time I am in a city. I think it may be starting to get a little cold this year.

Found in a public park, growing in a wooden raised bed. The substrate looks like it was used as mulch around the base of various plants, so I assume they started life at the garden centres wood chip provider, rather than going from spore to fruits in their final location. A different location to last year's finds, so at least they must be on the move
This was almost 4 weeks ago, in case anyone wondered

Cyans seem to be a lot more popular than I thought. I guess just not as many people are looking for them as liberty caps even though they are much better.
Woodchip flower beds seem to be more common these days so I expect the cyan population to grow fast in the UK along with us spreading them.

I know this thread is old but i thought i would still put this here, as i can't find an up to date thread. Are these Cyans? I haven't been able to get many of them to bruise with clarity. The one that's quite obviously blue is the only on to bruise with ease and turn out to be so blue. SOME of the others have a slight greeny tint to the outside of the caps.

Also does anyone know of any look a like's that are here in the UK ?
