You can actually take that spore syringe and divide with distilled water by the power of 12. Then turn that into 100 jars easy plus more to share I know grains and cakes arent the same but only pictures i have on subject.if you do end up moving to a bigger fruiting container pm azur directly for advice

hmm that sounds amazing ill check it out soon. I'm also going to make a SGFC for the extra cakes after I spawn to bulk. that way I can compare the growth times.

Another update: Pinning has been successful, I now have about ten or twelve pins/ aborts coming through the casing. the first pin has grown about five times the size. My issue is side pinning I have 40+ pins all along the sides of my plastic tub!!!!!!!!! I forgot to cover the sides with tape!!!!!!!!
WHAT DO I DO!!! WILL THESE 40+ SIDEPINS EVENTUALLY GROW THROUGH THE CASING? ARE THEY GOING TO ROT AND INFECT THE TUB?????

Pick them right before they roit side pins can be a big pain. Thats why some use black liner take a picture Sometimes you can just lift the sub out of tray to pick them

We dont use black liners to avoid side pins.

Funny story. I never ever use Liners. Decided to try one, a clear one at that. I never have problems with side pinning without Liners. Well fuck me. The top of the sub had very few crops. The sides had some. But the bottom had a shit load, with a liner all smushed against em. Liners,

Your saying liners are the cause of side pinning?

No, not at all what I'm saying. I do believe they work wonders for most people. I get away without using them because I really take my time and do a very nice job of making the sub surface smooth, flat, and level. My guess as to why I had a freak occurrence is because I probably treated the liner like it was something of magic and was not as anal as I usually am

i think the liner can sometimes act like a casing, similar to wax paper, by forming a microclimate with high humidity and evaporation on the surface of the substrate, between it and the liner. i bet this is what happened with your bottom pins.
sometimes i get lots of side pins on later flushes. i do my otto buckets without liners, and with the substrate level there really isnt any place for side pins to come from. And you usually just do 1 and done, flush-wise, right? so of course you wouldnt get side pins, since you scrap it by the time it shrinks. im about 96% converted to this 1 and done thing
after a flush or 2, the substrate shrinks SO much, that there is lots of room between its edges and the bucket, tub, or liner, and that is when i get a bunch of side pins.
very much appreciate you sharing your notes and experience azure
@OP: i think your setup is pretty cool! like azure said, you should be proud of it. really cool design, reminds me of my hide-away SAB lol

the reason jacobstorm thinks it probably wont work (i am guessing) is that an "automated" setup is really tough for people to build and dial in correctly on their first grow. people often try that route and get discouraged fast with the lack of success. before trying to build an "automated" system, you should invest some time in learning what mushrooms want/need.
i suggest ditching the cake methods, and making some grain spawn, then using that to do a couple of monotubs, and play with some trays in your FC at the same time. As you learn, you will see how tricky it is to keep the surface level moist but not pooling, and that microclimate and FAE are MUCH more important than RH. As you figure that stuff out, you will have a much better idea of how to build and use an FC, and whether or not "automated" is really what you want

Sick closet mate. Nice. I love the idea of an automated chamber. I think it could be a huge future for mycology. Their is actually a link in azur's sig that could qualify as an automated chamber. I just dont think this one in particular will cutt it because its shoved in a closet
