Pre Soak Prior to Spawning or Not?

Will the BE go up if you soak your 100percent colonized grains prior to spawning tubs or not?
Will the Mushrooms grow bigger in the tub if the grain spawn is soaked prior to spawning? From threads on here I've seen, my guess is yes. I will have to actually try it soon. If anyone knows where comparing this has been done please let me know.

Not recommended imo. You are opening a whole new can of contam vectors if you rehydrate colonized grains. The bulk sub should have enough moisture content to provide a good environment to jump start colonizing/fruiting. Working with grains is not like consolidated PF cakes. They are not nearly as contam resistant, but are much easier to prep and spawn.

personally, i usually do it. i have had my biggest harvests from tubs where i did a 10-20 min soak (including one flush that was 3.5 kg and a 296 gram fruit!!!!)
that said, if your grain looked particularly moist, or if your sub was extra moist, id skip the soak. testing it, i have always gotten better yields from soaking, but i think proper moisture content is more important overall
its totally optional, but mushrooms are 90% water, and IME it has boosted yields

I tired testing it once with a isolate i did see like a 20% increase in BE with because its wet weight. But it didn't increase the cracker dry weight. It also increased spawn run by two days. Most of us make the sub a litte on the heavier moist side for big flushes. It does increase the BE but not dry yeild. Nothing more sad when 950g wet only turns to 49g dry.

OP, it really comes down to your technique. some circumstances it is totally not called for, and in others it is really handy for supplying long term moisture and boosting yields. IME dunked grains have gone faster, not slower, but your mileage may vary. i dunk all my spawn since i tested and verified that it works well in my projects, its consistently faster and has better yields
if you have the option, test it for yourself. you might find that the extra step causes more problems than its worth, or you might find it to be a really fast and easy way to boost yields. what works for me and frank might not work so well for others, depending on their project's moisture needs and how they meet them
i am still having trouble wrapping my head around this yield, i used the same amount of spawn and sub as always, but babied the hell out of it in terms of FAE and misting/evaporation, and it sucked up huge amounts of water. what is really crazy is feeling how light the tub is after, even compared to tubs on their 3rd flush, it feels empty!! i really dont understand how 3.5 kg flush came out of it, had to be the water and FAE (though of course technique in both of those)

You really gave that tub some love.
That tub had good clean pin cluster clone spawn. Clones rule and Good genetics has alot to do with BE too probably alot more.
The pre-soak speeds up colonizing times thanks Croncer . Kind of like when transplanting a plant watering decreases recovery time.
