Late Pressure Cooking?
    #23746998 - 10/17/16 07:47 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Hi! My PC only fits 2 1/2 pint jars, but I made four. I had time to PC the first two jars the same day I made them. However, I was only able to PC the next two jars two days after I made them. During the time, they simply had tin foil covering the sealed lid. I just put them in the PC, but I neglected to look if any mold had formed in that time.

Had mold formed, would the PC'ing kill it, and be safe to innoc? Thanks!

The mold had any formed would have been killed easily but it's better to not let molds form to begin with. Next time PC them within 24 hours. Put em in the fridge as well to slow down growth of nasties.

Maybe yes-maybe no.

You took a risk decision that you are now going to spend time/effort/money(possibly) on...

I personally wouldn't have taken that risk decision.

Limit your risks- don't use the luck jar...use the skill jar. Leaving your jars for days only allowed for whatever was in there to get stronger.

And 'hopefully' you'll kill it all. Doing it right the first time is always better than gambling on the future success of a grow.

Not trying to be mean or put you down.... I'm actually interested in doing the opposite. This "limit the risks" mentality will allow you to have better judgement in the future.

should be fine as said. What is the make & model of the PC, any photos? my pc is small but only being able to fit 2 half pints sounds tiny. I imagine there might be different shaped jars you could find to make more efficient use of it. I have a big collection of jars and can find combinations of different types which can result in far more jarred grains fitting into the PC overall. Hot dog jars are often tall and narrow, so I can fit more in, since many jars are shorter than the PC and so that space goes to waste. Could they have been stacked on each other?

Thanks! I know, it was a bit of an accident, due to being busy and not having time.

It's some stupid Brazilian pressure cooker I have, usually make beans with it. 4.5L only. I can actually fit three in, but then I can't close the lid (because the lid must be inserted vertically). I might have been able to stack them, but I wasn't able to find a rack short enough for that.

Please please look on craigslist everyday until you find a big one. If you only fixing four next time. And is short on time why not just boil then at the same time your pcing the other two. Then three days after recooking would look so bad .
