DIY alcohol burner

Hey guys!
So alcohol burners are very expensive to buy where I live so I came up with an idea how to build one myself for those who don't want to spend 20 bucks on one (go and buy one if it's cheap though)
Things needed: 1 Al can 1 old kitchen wash cloth - has to be cotton (for the wick) RTV silicone (no need for high-temp though) scisors denaturated alcohol 1/4 in drill bit
Build: 1. Cut the can about 10cm/4in from the bottom 2. drill a 1/4inch hole in the bottom of the can 3. use the rest of the can to get a "sheet" of Al - straighten it up 4. place the cut can hole facing up and use a generous amount of silicone to secure it on the sheet of Al we made earlier 5. wait for the silicone to set 6. cut a strip of the wash cloth about 20cm/10in long 7. pour alcohol into the can through the hole we made earlier - fill it up 3/4 8. insert the wick, wait for it to suck up the alcohol and light it - god to go

These work great obviously but aluminum would make me feel very unsafe. Glass is best mate

OBVIOUSLY there are better alternatives and obviously this probably isn't what you want to use in cultivation however, this is still a really cool little kit here.
Thanks for sharing.
Besides if I had the tools around to make an alcohol lantern out of glass, I'd just buy a damn torch.....

You say that as if everyone has a drill and glass drillbit...
What if I wanted to make this while I was stranded in my car? As I said, this DOES NOT belong in cultivation, because in cultivation you want to use the best you can get your hands on/afford.
You don't have to talk to me like I don't understand how simple it is to drill a hole in a mason jar.
But really, think of other perspectives.

This just makes my point even more concrete, not everyone has the knowledge and tools. IN FACT some people here aren't even out of college.. which means they may not even know how to drive a car..
The fact that that's funny to you tells me this conversation is over. Have a good one friend.
I still think this is an awesome idea. The guy even said "go and buy one if it's cheap"

Dafuq are you even talking about? A glass drill bit? I don't see anyone suggesting you needed one.. a regular drill bit would be fine. Just don't push excessively hard, and be patient. A regular drill bit is fuckin boss!
Some people will fill the glass container with water to keep the heat low as well, but just going about it slow should help with that too.

I don't know what I'm talking about because I never learned about tools- I just bought a set and use what I use.
My point, is that this is a really neat survival DIY, that DOES NOT belong in the cultivation thread. I simply don't see why that's such a big deal for me to believe.
To each their own I suppose. the "lol glass drillbit" though. Like "hahah illiteracy is HILARIOUS"

I don't get why are you scared of the aluminum? it transfers the heat very well, true, but there is the alcohol in the can to cool it down and the silicone is resistant to alcohol, so as long as it doesn't leak, it's very safe actually..
Now glass in comparison is a bitch, it cracks with sudden temperature change. (unless you have special high temp glass

One bad move and your not gonna have an easy time putting out alcohol burning your carpet and house down. The flame is almost invisible.

Firstly, no I'm actually in tons of pain today thanks for asking.
Allow me to quote myself "this doesn't belong in cultivation." "This would be a cool survival DIY"
Amidogen I feel like you think I'm coming from a place of anger when in reality I'm just trying my best to communicate that this is a cool idea in non cultivation circumstances.
HOWEVER I did find a need to laugh at Jacob's idea of "funny" when he said "lol glass drilbit" Pardon me for not knowing the proper term.

he was just saying that you don't need a diamond tipped bit to drill the lid of a baby food jar. hell, you could punch a hole with a nail.
