Crappy grain quality - how to handle?

Hey.
So the thing is, the grain I bought (30kg/66lbs of it) has a shitload of cracked kernels in it. Absolutely no avoiding them (cracked even in raw form). I've had relatively good success, only about 2 jars have become a mushy, unshakable mess, out of 20+.
So far I've been handling it as normal uncracked grain, as per RR grain prep. My question is, given the fact that I have starchy leakage every single time, what kind of prep modification do you guys think I should do, to avoid as much problems as possible?

I would rinse your grains off after simmering instead of letting them steam dry. For dirtier grains, I could never get that stickiness away with RR's method.

i would say, rinse them correctly, and don't simmer, just a cold soak give me better results when i have a lot of cracked grains

How long would the soak be without cookin'? And would they still need drying afterwards?
And yeah forgot to mention, I've mostly rinsed them after cooking to get rid of grain juice. Which is a PITA since they take forever to dry if cold.

If I'm going to give an opinion I'd go with what was suggested for me with bird seed.

Gr0wer said: Bird seed is typically dirty. I get double or triple cleaned feed grains and they have minimal chaff and floaters. Not a huge deal with bags but in jars you will run into clumping.

The majority of what works great for the mycelium and for innocculation points is the millet. It's tiny so you get a ton of inoculation points when you spawn. This way you also are using 100% of what you bought instead of 20% going to waste.

TravelAgency said: I've been using the simmer method with WBS with success. Put seed in a bucket, bring water to a boil, cut the heat wait for it to stop boiling then pour into the bucket- cover for 1 hour, then strain, wash, and let steam dry. Can you find just millet?
So, quality wins, its cleaner. And use millet or small seeds. Cold soak works, but increases cook time, and risk.
Long story about bacteria, read here and here.

I used to use millet because it was the only grain I could get locally at a reasonable price. I prepped with and without simmer before deciding to dump it and special order milo. The downside of no-simmer was the final moisture content was always between 35 and 40% and the thing that sucked about simmering was the stickiness. Not ideal in either case in my experience, but maybe there's a better way than what I was doing.

I can only read others experiences, and then read about the pests in question. Never going to do cold soaks, simply a bad idea, just no!
I have two things no one has tried yet.
1) Hot kettle swap: Soaked in boiled water, 20 minutes, change water. Up to 4 hours total > PC. 2) Hot kettle pumped: Soaked in boiled water, air pumped into the container. 2 hours > PC.
Thoughts?
