Who all did you send micros/spores out to? I would do it but I fucking suck with a scope and it's all dirty so the pictures come out cloudy. I really wish Alan would look at these and possible test their genetics. Do you have a local herbarium that you could drop a few off at?

You know, every time I see this thread bumped I could've sworn I saw these in Washington. I ignored them foolishly because of habitat (and funky looking) Didn't even inspect like an idiot. I dare say I know a spot of them too. It's either a 5 hour drive and a dice roll or finding someone like N05 or anyone in the area to go take a better look.

If it were up to me i would call them "Psilocybe susanescens" in honor of my Mom.

Naming them after a person would result in a double i, so Psilocybe susanii.

I'm sure we could let one slide. Susanescens sounds better anyway.

This is not quite right, as 'ii' would signify the name is honouring a male.
More correctly for the name Susan it would be 'susaniae'

Good to know! I don't think I've seen a mushroom with a name ending iae. How you do say this phonetically?

Psilocybe aucklandiae for instance, I pronounce 'ee-a' but I believe the correct pronunciation is 'ee-ee'.

When the genus name is feminine as is Psilocybe the species epithet should reflect that unless named to honour a man.
P. aucklandiae was originally published in error as P. aucklandii then subsequently changed to the more correct P. aucklandiae.

Or susaniana because it was named after her and she was not the discoverer or namer.
