I think it's very likely that the species in Jousts images is P. semilanceata.

Yes, Alan has the DNA data, you can see how they are separate species in the link below. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23190796#23190796
That's cool to know. Do you know which collection this senescence came from?

Great thread NothingsChanged. Beautiful photos Joust. Interesting on a macroscopic level they resemble Liberty caps with a baeocystis look to the caps on some specimens.
The MO says deleted or merged with another observation. What is the spore size on this collection? P.semilanceata has a much bigger spore size than P.tasmaniana. DNA on P.tasmaniana says 99% P.semilanceata so maybe microscopy on this collection would be interesting to see on this thread.
I'm looking forward to seeing some micrographs here Joust if that's possible. Really interesting species.

Update: My Very close friend who once upon a time turned me onto Cyan/Azures reached out to me today. Now living way down Southern Cali way, but still in contact with his Friend Paul over at Fungi Perfect. Anyway. Long story short. I went out this evening and put together a collection and will be sending it in the morning. My Friend, Jason R is wanting to say Psilocybe subfimetaria. and they do resemble a picture of his that he showed me. I think i am starting to see a trace of a fibrilose annular zone. He will scope them soon as they arrive and call me with some details. Hopefully get to the bottom of this.
The whole area i am afraid will be flooded soon. Some caps today were dam near the size of a shot glass. also. Nipple almost apeared to be full of some kind of liquid?
Exciting for sure.

I am strongly leaning to P. subfirmetaria...
The very 1st pics you sent me, I was thinking grassland phenotype baeo, but went through a bunch of archived pics, and subfirmetaria seems to be the best fit.
I will do spore measurement , mount gill tissue and get pics and we can proceed from there

also check cystidia.. I have yet to scope them,
subfimetaria has not been well documented and I kinda doubt its a real species....
Im not opposed to other ideas with this collection, but there are so many there, that are so variable, most just look like liberty caps...

Im also wondering about the poor confidence rates for that tree...

Please create your own thread for Identifications instead of highjacking someone else's.
P.s. I also found some huge specimens today and some cyans in the same habitat, only a few, but for sure cyans... The plot thickens with this specimen being like an inch across +
