I have more pics i will post from the last visit. I was fortunate to learn a lot about the habitat. whatever species we got in there, theres a lot of variability.

sorry ive been slacking man... its really nice to see your still active on the board! I took some more pics today, so ive gotten lots of data...
I think from what i can tell is we got some huge funky and some normal liberty caps.. Im thinking the strange morphology can be attributed to the roadatilled grass substrate. Theres lots of pockets of chunky dead grass. I think they just have the perfect food and plenty of water given the wetland habitat.
Big chunks of ripped up canary grass from what I can telll......

Have you compared them with Psilocybe strictipes? They are close to washington state material I have taken for that species if my memory can be relied on. If they are something else perhapse i can reconsider myself.
--------------------
Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

I would consider it if there was DNA backing up previous collections. I have a feeling that these liberty caps are very morphologically variable... like pelliculosa... but ill let everyone know with the scoping...

I hope you guys are ready for this to get messy!!!!
So notice the gills in some of these and the odd shapes... they reminded me of baeos, the gills seem really really different than many others... i think scoping is the way to go.... still no rings on any...
ahhhhhh..... i love this time of year.....

What the fuck?
Dude these are so cool!
I'm really hoping they turn out to be Psilocybe strictipes, Psilocybe liniformans var. americana or maybe even Psilocybe silvatica- they are all in the section Semilanceatae so would all be sort of similar to Psilocybe semilanceata in appearance.

Yeah but I think thats how they got described in the first place... they are all over,, I could see the ones being baeos, but other than that,,, maybe funky libs.. keeping my hopes high for something cool though... well, no matter its cool
Thanks maynard! Thanks again NothingsChanged for the chance to Photograph!

I doubt these are P. semilanceata.
Either way, someone is going to sequence these finds.

Psilocybe strictipes is really just P. semilanceata.

That may be the case but I still don't have the information to accept or reject the notion. You likely know I'm slow to accept changes and that I'm poor with retention is as likely an explanation as any.

Nothing has been published about it, but all the DNA sequences for P. semilanceata / P. strictipes have turned out the same. The microscopic differences are tiny and overlapping. It's just that P. semilanceata is a little more variable than some authors thought.
