My shiitake blocks

Here are my two shiitake blocks

These were started on millet and spawned to pasturized sawdust with a lil wheat bran.
I was careful with my spawn ratio because I didnt want to supplement them too much because they will produce mutants.
I have a question about how a shiitake block feels when you birth them. Are they suppose to be rock solid or a little on the soft side?
And i spawned them on the first of august, cold shocked them for about 3 days in my fridge and birthed them today.
Do you think i gave them enough time to consolidate?
Thanks

That doesn't look colonized to me.
Is the brown/orange stuff the substrate?
Only one way to find out though ... let us know how it goes.

shiitake sawdust blocks need to wait for three months before they fruit. They will get a brown colour during that time, they you beat the block up a bit to give it a shock, water them, then into the chamber.
yours appear to have colonized then put straight into your sgfc

Lol well i popped them back in their cotainers, giving them another month.
I have four others going almost colonized, probably another two months for them.
Man these things take so damn long, but they are delicious and nutritious

Thanks for the information. What does this mean for growing Shiitake spawn to bulk? I am about to take some spore prints and cultures sterilized grain and possibly H2O2 treated cardboard. No agar.

Usually shiitake is spawned onto sterilised supplemented substrate where it is then matured and fruited.

yea those look bad. So bad it inspired me to make a playlist just for you lol. Click here and watch my vidoes on some of the steps to grow shiitake. I started with the sterilizer drum but you can skip that one if your using a pressure cooker.
