mutant blobs / dunking

Hi, This is a new hobby in which I'm learning as I encounter issues. Thanks in advance for the insight. I neglected to dunk and refrigerate my cakes for 24hrs, as I now see to be a common part of the protocol after lurking on this message board. My first question then, is it advisable to back peddle and take care of this step? The cakes have been in their chamber for 1 week already.
Secondly, 3 days earlier I started to notice what I thought might be pin formations on the tops of my cakes. They've increased in size and darkness and after some research I'm wondering if they are not pins, but instead "mutant blobs" as I've seen mentioned on this board. Or perhaps I'm just seeing contamination.
Third, this morning I noticed the edge of one of the cakes has some discoloration. I didn't particularly man-handle these things, and so I'm not sure if this is bruising or again, a form of contamination.
Course of action at this point??? Thanks again.

They are some seriously dry cakes, no verm roll either. Why are they sat on verm and not perlite ffs. You didn't dunk either and no one refrigerates cakes. No holes in fc so choking to death how can you say you've been reading up on here but have done everything wrong

I found this site after mostly watching videos online, at which point I apparently learned a bad lesson. Anyhow, my impression was that holes were not needed if fanning was done frequently, and that perlite and vermiculite are both methods for holding moisture and so for the tank are interchangeable. If that's not the case, I'll obviously be modifying my setup in the future. Thanks.

You'd need to fan like 5-6 times an hour to replicate something like FAE. SGFC is the best and imo the only way for cakes. Verm and perlite are not interchangeable at all they both do completely different things verm soaks up water perlite it sits on the outside of it. Everything is better explained in the link below https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20195542#20195542 Do this EXACTLY as described don't cut corners or modify the tek and you will get much better results
Your gonna need to hydrate those cakes asap at very least bottom water them till they stop soaking up water

Thanks. I've got the cakes back in their jars and submerged in water. I will roll them in verm 24hrs from now. Fingers crossed. I've also modified my chamber by adding the holes and perlite. Unfortunately I don't have the ability to EXACTLY follow those instructions (I live on a boat and so having a giant plastic tub of that size is just not possible), but I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. I feel as if I've found conflicting information a few times, ie putting soaking cakes in the fridge for a night before "birthing," as well as whether to directly mist the cakes once in the chamber. Anyhow, thanks for the input.

The size of the tub is flexible. Make do with whatever size works in your situation. The important part of building a shotgun fruiting chamber is ensuring good airflow (holes) and a source of moisture (perlite.) If you have those you'll be more or less fine.

You're always going to find conflicting information. A couple of tips for handling that. 1) Read read read and read some more, especially newer posts on this forum, and especially those posted by "Trusted Cultivators." Eventually you will get an idea of what seems like the best course of action. 2) A good rule of thumb is to try and find what RogerRabbit (user on this forum) says to do in a given situation and try that. There will always be opposing opinions, but he won't steer you wrong.
But to cut to the chase: no need to refrigerate, and direct misting is fine.

Well let me ask you this do mushrooms grow in the snow? A fridge may not be that cold but its close, mushrooms like similar conditions to humans treat them like you would yourself and you cant go wrong. Also the tub you posted can be made into a make shift mini sgfc just pepper it with holes on all 6 sides top and bottom otherwise theyll be choking
