sterilizing syringes always sketches me out for some reason. I'm probably just going to pour everything

I like a syringe for inoculating bags but I still aspirate and inoculate the bag in my SAB. Peace of mind is a good thing.

yea, I can see that being the best way with bags, but all I have are jars, and lots of big ones

Yea, I do mine in front of a flow hood.
I don't do anything fancy either. I experimented with all that, and didn't care for it, so went back to what worked for me 100% of the time.
All I use is a pint wide mouth with a couple of pieces of broken glass inserted into the medium and a plastic lid with only a SFD.
I let the culture colonize the medium just before it begins the mat on the surface.

The jar is then shaken the crap out of directly into the sterile airflow of the hood, then place the jar in front of the hood, then suck the culture into syringes.

The filter gets wet, but isn't a vector unless you remove the wet filter from inside of the sterile flow of the hood.

This is one of the top 2 reasons I switched from an SAB to a flow hood.

You could probably get banging results making PDA agar and then using sterilized grain water with a drop of honey or Karo to give a more dynamic nutrient profile.
just a thought at least.

I have a pretty high success rate with my SAB. Did a single tub with 21 quarts of spawn and 6 buckets (including casing lol) of coirverm. Went for 3 flushes and was pretty healthy and clean. Was a good test of my spawn. Started all that with this method.

Yes you could do that. But I like to see that there is nothing in the nutes that maybe survives the cycle. Especially with grain water or dog food. They have high natural populations.

One of the hurdles of this hobby, for sure, is to experiment with different techniques to figure out what works best for you in your own growing environment. It's not a competition. Used to get high success in SAB too, but hood works best for me. Of coarse my growing sitution is larger than the average active shoomery member. That's just the way the cookie crumbles.
Yea I saw that grow too. That was cool.
I fit 6 bricks of coir into a 10 gallon tub, and get 6 buckets worth of coir clean in 1 container. I wrote a little tek over that called "The Tote Tek" if you want to check it out.
Looks like I deleted a few pictures from that thread for whatever reason. Must have been before I got tagged, and my supporter account ran out, and I needed to upload some pictures.
What variety was featured in that thread?

Trying to wrap my head around the super easy LC.
I still need agar in my LC water? But not enough to make it hard, just to give it some thicker texture than just water?
Anyone got a simple potato flake/honey or Karo recipe?

The easiest, and best LC medium recipe, by far, ime, is 1 table spoon of LME to 1 quart of water. Simple, easy, fast, and effective.

You make agar and put it in a pint jar with a grain lid. Sterilize.

Then transfer a wedge. Do this in a SAB. Let it grow out a bit to be sure the colony is clean and healthy.

Then add sterile water. Let it colonize. When done pour the colonized water to inoculate.

The super easy part is it works without the need for a ship or whatman filters or syringes.
