I usually don't let the edges grow right out. Soon as you can be satisfied that no satellites are going to show and there is no bacteria in the media get the water in.

In a few days it's going to explode. What recipe did you use for that?

LC without SHIP or SFD. Possible? If so, how? Hell I may go to Walmart and get the silicone. It's cheap isn't it?

I'm trying to keep it simple. Don't know that I can swing ordering needle filters at the moment

Possible. Probably not ideal. The only LC I ever made was just a piece of agar thrown into an old PF jar with honey water. I was just winging it. When I went to suck it up in my SAB I realized I fucked up. Half hour and half a syringe later I gave up. I inocced my Kramer cakes and ditched the the LC. Next time I feel the need to do LC I know where to look tho

do it super easy LC style as described at the bottom of OP then. the whatman filters are great because they dont care if they get wet, if you got "normal" filters instead just get taller jars and be more careful as explained in OP.
I dont have any pics but it works great, I beat some long nails through my first LC lid jars, siliconed over the nail head in the lid and used the nails instead of glass shards/marbles etc as explained in earlier LC teks.

I used Dog food with added dextrose to the ratio you stated. 5 gram nutes - 4 gram DF and 1 gram dex, 1 gram agar
Hope it works as it was a really nice AA+ culture before I added water.
Im going to try one with PE tomorrow.

A nice looking sector from my 2nd PE transfer

Using a 10:10 ratio DF to Agar to 500ml water to see how lower nutes responds

My LC is a bit cloudy today. The jar and lid im using are not a great seal and when I swished it some liquid came out. So im not sure if it is the mycellium and agar leaching into the mix or bacteria.

Too cloudy. How many days is the water sitting on the agar? Looks like bacteria to me. Be careful and try it on one jar first before using it to inoculate more jars.

That's definitely bacteria. The agar traps any sediment so if you see anything cloudy I bet it's bacteria. How long did you sterilize for? Dog food isn't like MEA and needs a far longer sterilization cycle. 30 min is not going to cut it with DFA.
Also be very careful of lids that don't seal. I had an LC contam on me once the same way.

Those tapered jam jars have very large lids. You had other jars, maybe dolmio or uncle bens, some of those have quite narrow lids which would be better for LC.
These jars are designed for single use only, well to last the use of the contents in the jar, not like canning jars some use. If you tighten them too much the lid will deform where it locks onto the glass thread and then it comes off. If this happens once it is hard to repair it, and the lid will always have to be only semi tight, and certainly not for use with LCs. If may not be obvious if it is damaged as it may not totally fail like that, it could have simply been overtightened too many times. I have several large jars and replace the lids from time to time with identical lids from smaller jars.
Some supermarket regular jars will have better lids than others, usually in fancier brands.
Most of these single use jars have similar threads and cap designs. Therefore if you tighten it to the same level, e.g. if it was attached to a drill and twisted on until the drill torqued out -then the smaller diameter lid would have a better seal, similar force acting over a smaller sealing area.
I had some nice big jars that I could not get replacement lids for, to repair them I put silicone in the lid.

Great point. Let it be stated that the jar you use is in the top 3 of important factors.
Clean culture Good sterile technique The correct jar for the job
Dont be lazy and get yourself a proper sealing fully closing jar and lid or this can happen
