I heard the synthetics kill the beneficial microbes

I personally prefer to use organically sourced ferts for my cacti, but I know some people exclusively use MiracleGro with some success.

I use slow release ferts. Mainly organic. I dont use miracle gro anymore because of the simple fact that i hate what that company stands for. But when i did use it, it was great stuff. I knock the company, not the fertilizer itself.

While I grow using only organic amendments and techniques, mixing organic and synthetics can be done with good results if you know what you are doing.
The current world record for bushels of corn per acre is 532, using a mixture of organic, no-till, GMO, and synthetic techniques. FWIW

Organic fertilizers need a healthy soil full of microorganisms to help break down fertilizers so that the plants can use them more efficiently. I've heard that synthetic fertilizers tend to kill off most of the helper organisms, but honestly I don't know.
Personally, I've never intentionally used a synthetic fertilizer because it has always been cheaper for me to just build a compost pile and throw in grass clippings and leaves.

i just googled it, it seems like they doubled their harvest combining synthetics and organics.

This was always my thought process behind it also.
Synthetic nutrients are made to be readily used by the plants without the beneficial microorganisms for that fact, IMO.

I only use synthetics and my mixes are purely mineral (well, most of them).
