Hmm mined if i just follow this a bit. The pictures look a bit off. Why so much chicken poop? It was composted first right? And proper pasteurization done to it?

It was a bit on the dry side when taking the pics, gave it a light mist after. It's getting a lot of FAE. First time doing it in this sort of fruiting chamber. It's really more of an experiment for me to dial in my tubs without polyfill.

Store bought chicken manure, seems quite a bit diluted.

My pasteurization may not be what most regard as proper, but it's never let me down. I mix all the sub together in a tub then add the 4.5l boiling water, give it a mix, finish.

I'm sure you'll be impressed by the results.

Dang two quarts of spawn for a 66? Low ratio.. I'm curious to see this one...
Best of luck.
Is there a reason you didn't use 6 qts of spawn?

Merci. Was just pleased with the spawn I used and figured it will handle it.

The 2 qt is fine. Im more worried it contam sub but each of own. When you mean no polyfil i assume you mean no holes. It's not as set and forget as a nomarl tub but worth it. I say your green house trays pick so i know you'll do well. If you ever get into pasteurization you should try straw cased monotubs with no holes.

I don't know how well I've dialed it in yet as this is the very first time I'm doing it this way, but this is what they look like with the lids lifted up slightly by the handles. There are 5 open holes in each of the two ends of the tub. All other holes are taped up.

So you didn't follow any hole placement teks eh? Are you sure you're advanced enough to keep conditions perfect without following teks?

Also with the lids propped up, and holes open to air, that's a lot of GE, I hope you're a boss mister. Usually people use the imperfect seal of the lid lol

Those tubs are not really nood friendly they need a pretty stable environment to work good.
I use similar tubs

But I'm a closet cultivator. Not cause of kids or parents . Kids are grown parents are dead . I just like things to be nice and tidy and out of sight of random lady friends.  Field compasity is very important with that style tub they will dry out fast if your conditions are off. If you mist don't fan it . Us a candle and go around the tub and make sure you don't have any drafts around it .

Very curious to how this goes.

My uncle raises chickens and uses it in his garden as his only
Fertilizer and I swear on my my life he grows potatoes and peppers as large as my skull. Has such huge vegetables (and weed) and says it's all in that chicken poo.

looks good so far!

how did you prep the chicken manure? did you leech it, or dry it, or just use it straight out of the bag?

if it contams it is probably because of the improper pasteurization, or unleeched manure. ive bought chicken manure to use several times, but never use it because it stinks and is not dry & leeched like my hpoo nuggets. IME the best manure for our purposes doesnt stink

Chickens as fertilizer

I actually started using the chicken manure after reading so many old threads and seeing RR boast about how beneficial it is, especially as a nitrogen additive when using coir.

Dried the chicken manure in the sun till there wasn't much of an ammonia smell, then simply mixed with the rest of the bulk and 'pasteurized'.

2 should be fine. 6 quarts would be a little overkill IMO

smart man. that is a very crucial step when working with the bagged manure products, they almost always smell like ammonia and poop. caused all kinds of problems for me when i first started doing bulk, when i would read "cow or horse manure" and i would go get a bag of "Black Kow" from home depot and pour it in my substrate mix lol... learned a lot from those mistakes... those kinds of products work fine if you prep them correctly, but kinda gotta know what you are looking for. i much prefer field-aged, odorless, dry nuggets of hpoo over every other type of manure i have worked with

cron is right about your ratio as well btw, RR recommends using no more than 5% chicken manure

also, what was your reasoning behind using DE? im just curious, because DE has to be completely dry to be effective against insects. however, it is great at retaining water, and acts as a mild ph buffer

best of luck! cant wait to see your pinsets
