WBS to Substrate Ratio question
    #23737685 - 10/14/16 04:33 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

So my first attempt was a success working from doc34's tek, now I have one jar left of mycelium growth in WBS that I did not have space to fruit or incubate.  Sorry if my terminology is incorrect, still new to this however have a question directed towards anybody with experience growing.  My plan is to make a mixture of primarily Coco Coir and some spent coffee grounds to mix in with my jars of WBS and mycelium then cover with very slight ventilation in a 80 degree F climate.  This worked for me last time however what I want to do differently is put a higher ratio of substrate (3x) and incubate for a few extra days(how many extra..idk, after this I will make the non nutriative layer such for fruiting) If this sounds like something that would work please let me know.  I do not know how much the WBS actually provides to the entire process and if having a lower ratio of this and mycelium will prevent growth from happening.  My thinking is that it would just take slightly longer for the mycelium to spread.  If this works, I was thinking I may be able to have more flushes because there would overall be more substrate and I would have to use less inculated WBS.

Another question if anybody knows now that I'm thinking about this, does the mycelium go though a chemical change after being subject to the hotter and higher co2 concentrated environment? Meaning could I take a piece of mycelium from a tub that been incubated (but prior to fruiting) and "jumper growth" of sorts into another WBS Jar free of mycelium?

with cubes you can do anywhere from 1:1 - 1:4 oftentimes. Use a higher ratio if you feel your spawn is on the sketch side. Clean spawn can stand the lower ratio.

I'd spawn a mini-mono. They're around 27qt. and I can get about 2.5" substrate and still be around or below a 1:2 ratio. Of course, it depends on your tub, but I've done that a few times actually. It's helpful too if you're trying to look for clone candidates in MS grows.
