Gymnopilus
    #23738519 - 10/14/16 08:48 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Found on a fallen oak straddling a run off ravine in Missouri hardwood forest. I believe these might be luteus as opposed to luteofolius or junonius. Mainly due to the skinny little stipes, but also the more prominent yellow color of the cap. Purple was way more apparent in the caps of the luteofolius I found. These have pretty heavy blueing as well. Let me know what you think, thanks.

Rakish
the last picture showing the gills looks g. liquiritae but the caps do not. Is it the same mushroom? Prints look like gymnopilus to me.  Sorry nothing more definitive.

They're the same mushrooms, just shitty lighting. The gills are more yellow and not that orange under natural light.

Why not Gymnopilus aeruginosus?

I think Gymnopilus needs work done on it.

Could be, are the stems this squat and thin on aeruginosus?

Gymnopilus luteofolius/Gymnopilus fulvosquamulosus

--------------------
Before assuming that any wild mushroom is edible, it should be identified. Accurate determination and proper identification of a species is the only safe way to ensure edibility, and the only safeguard against possible accident. Some mushrooms that are edible for most people can cause allergic reactions in some individuals, and old or improperly stored specimens can cause food poisoning

Not g. Fulvosquamosus, which is inactive. Green bruising is apparent in most of the photos so I'm going to guess its active and something in the gymnopilus Aeruginosus-Luteoviridis clade.
