Image of rub is my avatar. Was going to give it another week... still a lot of brown compared to other people's. Thanks!

Well you have no pics that are public so we can't see those. You should just post em here. Copy the shroomery code under the pic and paste it here. It's that easy.

Sometimes. Sometimes less. It's going to depend on substrate type, how it was prepped, culture vigor, bacteria load, etc. Lot of factors can change its appearance.
That looks reasonably healthy. Go ahead and fruit it. Hell some people put the tub in fruiting conditions the day they spawn it.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh.... I did it prematurely before and got like 15 dry out of it. Was expecting a little more this time because I used more than twice the spawn, which was the called for amount anyways. ThAnks for all your help. I'll post back in a few weeks to show how she went.

I fruit :prematureejaculation: at spawn. I just dial it in tighter 'till it pins. It's not a huge deal with cubes if you check your tub once in a while.
15 dry what? Grams? Single mushrooms? Do you mean you already had a little flush with this tub? Were they all hollow?

Grams. I used 4 small jars of spawn... not near enough. After a month it was still only spotty in places but I did fruit it out of desperation and got 15 g. I've seen some people get over 5 oz out of a tub. Was excited to see it though. It was my first grow.

Shit I consider 5 oz from a 66 quart tub first flush a dissapointment. It happens of course with ms but 10-12 is far better to see first flush than 5.

alright! I'm going to fruit it! I was looking at your pics. did you do better without casing or with casing? in some pics, it looks like you used choir only, maybe some vermiculite mixed in... just a small layer over the top I suppose to keep in moisture?
I used the monotub choir tek. it's a mix of coco and vermiculite with 5 jars of spawn mixed in. This picture was taken about 14 days in.
also thinking about building a cheap incubator with a fish tank heater. Will this help my jars colonize faster? As of right now, they're taking about a month.
once again, thanks for all of your help!

Personally I don't case. Either way it doesn't really matter. Don't use an incubator.

I like to try all kinds of stuff. Casing helps me because I live in a dry climate so with a casing I am able to dial the FAE in higher. Coir casing is what I usually do but some things like PE or APE do better with peat casing so I will sometimes use peat for those.
It's usually helpful to case but not required. Some cultures actually do better without one. But my advice to you is to try as many things as you can. Cased, uncased, coir, peat, do em all at least twice. It's more tools in the belt.

I'll post pics of my progress once I'm on a pc.
How in the world do you get ten to twelve ounces out of a tub? We're talking dry. I'm using pf cakes, then choir and vermiculite and distilled water in the tub mix. Are you using something special to get that high of a yield? Also, there is black dust all over the sub since the caps have opened. I assume it's spores. Like I said... pics to come. It doesn't look like I'll be breaking four or five ounces though.

Good genetics, clean spawn, higher spawn ratios and enough supplied water are the keys to getting a 10-12 zip mono. Few people are able to get one of those bang on let alone all 3.

Pasty how do you use your peat for casing? I recently added peat to my bulk sub. Casing with it like you'd have a nice large moss bush on your bulk sub. Do you powder it up fine possibly?

I don't use peat to case much. When I do it's usually already pretty fine. I sift it to remove sticks and rocks, mix with equal parts verm. Then hydrate with water pH buffered to about 8.5-9 and properly pasteurize.

Okay so this is the tub right before I harvested it. I ended up getting about 44 g dry out of it. I just don't see how people are getting 155 g + out of theirs! I used 5 pf cakes then did the coco/verm sub tek with a monotub...
I just don't get it. Do I need to add something or do it differently?? I want to know! Also, I'm putting my jars in gallon-sized ziplocs after I take them out of the cooker and inject them with spores. Could this be making them take longer to colonize? I keep them in ziplocs to cut down on contamination, so I can pick the jars and look at them without risking any sort of shit getting into the inside of them. I use a two-hole method and make the holes as small as possible, then cover with aluminum foil.
Also, how useful is it to make your own syringes from prints? I've heard that this ups the contamination factor, which I'm happy to stay away from. I've only had one or maybe two contaminated jars out of over 40 total that I've inoculated so far, and that's pretty damn good, but they are still taking almost two months to completely colonize! I've seen so many cases on here where it takes a shorter amount of time. I'm storing them in a closet that's around 70 degrees for the most part.
